I wish we would make a play for Derek Anderson, he can see over the line at 6'6", throws a lazer on the mark pass and can read a defense and hes only 25 with some playing experience.

I dont' know. Moore was trained by one of the best, a coach that coached Brady in College. The guy says Moore was the best he ever coached including brady. So something isn't right in Demark so to speak.

Mike Riley never ever coached Brady that I know of......he merely wanted him to come to the college he coached which led to his later arguing for the Chargers to draft Brady when he was the SD HC.

Anyone who was on the old board likely recalls that I liked Moore even as a junior in college, so I believe he could develop into the future, yes. I think he does have the "IT" factor, that's what I liked about him most.

2. How can you say he doesn't have "it", from three games in 07 and a preseason in 08?

I think the "it" factor has a lot to do with leadership. It's not just presence in the huddle, it's a way of getting the rest of the offense to respond. A QB with a high "it" factor will always get the most out of his teammates, and will make them believe that he'll be there to win the game for them at the end.

In 2003, we were getting stomped on by Jacksonville at home and Rodney Peete just looked bad. Our line was getting no push, we weren't really doing anything on offense well, and the Jaguars looked like the much better team. I remember Jake running on the field in the second half pumping his arms, and pretty much everyone there was probably wondering what game that fool had been watching. I think when he got to the huddle for the first time he was the only person in the stadium predicting a win, but that rubbed off.

In his first drive he got the offense pumped and led them down the field for a touchdown. He did that three other times, one for a field goal and two TDs. Just about every Panthers fan who was around back then remember his final TD to Proehl, and all of us have forgotten that Jake threw two INTs that day. What was important to everyone was the W, and he delivered in a big way that day. That's the "IT" factor in action--the constant promise of a big play.

Does Moore have it? It's possible, but it's hard to tell. There's no doubt his first play was pretty dramatic, he certainly made Colbert look like a real NFL receiver. Was the team responding to him or to the fact he wasn't David Carr and wasn't in his 40s? I want to believe that he'll be a big leader for us, but I don't. I just think he's another decent QB who might be an Aaron Rodgers type, but not a Brady or Manning or even Jake. Think Steve Beuerlein with legs maybe, and Steve never had "IT".

You can win with QBs like that, and a lot of teams do. I just like having the "IT" under center, and I think a lot of us do.

With the exception of Manning, neither of the other 2, or Casell for that matter, were rated as potential superstars. The NFL's history is loaded with QBs who were high draft picks but were busts, and guys who emerged to be all time greats who didn't rate very high on the draft charts (or the systems in place BEFORE draft charts, systematic player evaluations, etc.). The Mannings tend to be the exceptions, the guys who live up to the hype, hopes, and expectations.

So thinking that the answer lies in this year's or any future year's draft is always going to come down to taking a big, expensive chance. I say stick with Moore and give him a fair chance at competing for the starting job, he's shown some ability in his few times out there. He's been here a few years now, and he knows the system in place. But we won't ever know WHO the future may be, the only way to find out is play SOMEBODY and hope the future proves to be NOW!

I'm confused on where the lack of "it" factor faith is coming from. Look at what he did as a starter, not in preseason throwing to bench warmers who are no longer with the team, and you'll see he definitely has "it."

Couple examples here...

1. Overall record as a starter vs playoff teams (2-1) and some could argue we should have won that Dallas game. Sure he didn't have flashy numbers but he didn't have mistakes and the team definitely rallied around him. No experience and not very much time with the team and they seemed to respond well, especially Smitty.

2. College Career. Moore was the starter as a sophomore at UCLA when an open competition was announced and his first year at Oregon State he won another open competition with a hometown favorite who had been with the team for a few years. Moore followed Derek Anderson and Riley, the HC, has said Moore was the best he's coached (another reason NOT to go after Anderson in FA). Moore led his team to wins over USC(#2) and Oregon (Rival) in his senior season before meeting Mizzou in the Sun Bowl and urging his coach to go for two in the final seconds of the game for the win. He set a Sun Bowl record with 4 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD and left college after the best game of his career.

3. Everywhere Moore has been he has been liked by coaches and teammates which shows a lot about his leadership and character.

Considering he doesnt have the talent to stick in the NFL, I am going to go ahead and say "no". The opinion people have of Matt Moore is alot like the opinions have of Basanez, and he was effectively blacklisted by 31 other teams he is so awful. Being a likable doesnt mean you have the ability to play in this league.

If Moore doesn't have the physical skills than Delhomme sure as hell doesn't.

I'd sadly be more comfortable with Tyler Thigpen or Shuan Hill. That's how little faith I have in Moore. Moore has played in nine games and his numbers are pretty much crap. You'd think any of us would take a Cassel or a Schaub (if he were available) in a second...but this thread proves otherwise!

If you ask me, I think he was simply an okay dressing on a horrible wound that was the 2007 season and it made him look more decent than he is. His stats say otherwise. Hell, Vinny looked about the same as the kid did. Thigpen had better stats this season and was playing for the damn Cheifs. Hill was great this year for a young 49ers team. If you want a Qb who can grow, and come into his own...GREAT. More power to ya...but I'd rather start of the blocks with one like Aaron Rodgers did in Green Bay. Moore is a project. When Jake hangs it up, or we hang it up for him, I don't want a damn project. I want a proven winner (FA) or a sure thing (can't miss rookie).

i love how moore wins two games, one of them against a buccaneers team that pretty much mailed in the rest of the season after they won the division, and people cream all over him and he's supposed to be the future and MVP of the Panthers for the next 14 years.

IMO at his best he won't be any better than Delhomme, and that's not saying much. Why are we satisfied with not trying to do better than that? He didn't really impress me in preseason, it looked like he made no progress at all.
