Jerry Richardson is a bad owner

top dawg

PC, I don't necessarily believe that this is pc.

In my estimation, the team takes on a life of its own, or at least the fans' adoration for it. People may not like to believe and/or admit this, but the team is bigger than the owner.

Some owners are just downright odd.

Call me idealistic, but owners come and go, but the team remains entrenched in the hearts of fans forever (unless a crazy ass owner moves it away) [j/k...not really].

I really don't care whether it's pc or not.

Yes the team takes a life of it's own. But we're also talking about the owner that brought the Panthers to life. He IS the Panthers, whether anybody else cares to admit to it or not.

You could have a slight argument if it wasn't the original owner.

But I'm also talking from experience, and observations. Fans have walked away from teams because of the ownership. I know several, I've seen more do it. It happens more often than anybody cares to admit.

Seriously, if one can't stand the owner, then they shouldn't bother. Jerry Richardson is the Panthers until his time with the living is past. Then we'll get to see the next chapter of the Carolina Panthers...will it have taken a life of it's own, or will it change? Depends on who the new owner would be. Thankfully, we won't have to deal with that for many years.

why when somebody questions the owner they have to find another team?once again this franchise is content with being average.
That is not what I said at all.

I want this team to be a winner. A champion. Always a team that is tough to play. I know the owner wants this, yet people like you just ignore it, so you can flap your gums about some other bs.

Not trying to be funny, at all, but life is not promised to anyone, especially someone who is near 75 years old, so We don't know whether it will be "many years" or not. Moreover, I dare say that more fans stick with teams notwithstanding owners than walk away from a teams because of an owner.

Hell, there are some who could care less who the owner is. Many people become fans of teams before they even know who the owner is. Jerry couldn't have possibly brought the Panthers to life without the thousands of fans that supported the team before it ever took the field. Community support was, and is, still the lifeblood of any NFL franchise. Jerry was the catalyst for the franchise, but he is not the franchise. Just like you give him props for springing the Panthers forth from the ground, you can give him the blame for running it back into the ground (not saying that he has). But he has helped some of the luster disappear with what some would call shortsightedness when it comes to the fans. Yeah it's not the end of the world, we are getting the number 1 pick and a totally new coach (knock on wood), but make no mistake that many very knowledgeable and ignorant people who are associated with the NFL---whether Jerry's colleagues, experts within the business, Panthers fans, other teams' fans, the media, and others who are within the world of sports and/ or familiar with sports---are viewing Jerry's way of handling the team in a negative light. Now we can only hope that he fixes it. And, I don't mean getting it to where it was, but to make it even more successful than it has ever been.

I hope he has made plans for his successor. The average lifespan in general is 80 years and for heart transpant recipients around 44% are alive at 10 years post surgery. For those who receive the transplant at 70 years or older it is less. Given he had the transplant 2 years ago the clock is definitely ticking. I know people don't want to talk about that but if he wamts a Superbowl ring, the window is closing.

I didn't want to outright say it because some see the future through Big Cat-colored glasses, which is a bit shortsighted.

Well this is a quality thread...

Talking about the validity of the way the ownership is running the team is worth its weight in gold, as far as I am concerned. It's not like anyone has said anything too out of the way. Just throwing thought out opinion, like usual.

yea i want the panthers to win too

my sisters who aren't fans want the panthers to win, they think it would be nice

my father likes to see them win if they're competitive and the dolphins are out of it (unless it's against miami)

my dog probably thinks it would be nice for the panthers to win. elmo and all the other colorful monsters from sesame street would probably think it to be just dandy if the panthers succeed

it's not hard to want the team to be a winner, especially when you own it. but does he make it as much a priority as he should?

I'm not reading this thread because getting caught up in back and forth banter is a waste of time. All I have to say is: four winning seasons in 16 years. We're all blessed he brought the Carolinas a NFL team, but he and everyone involved have yet to be the best they can be. Hopefully, one day this franchise can be seen as the best...and it all starts at the top.
