Jerry Richardson is a bad owner

top dawg

I understand a bit why someone from the outside might get that impression, I just can't imagine that most people who have been with the organization before now would think we were cheap. Of course, it probably doesn't help that he sounded like he didn't know Jim Harbaugh, but Harbaugh remembers us and gave us favorable remarks when he did talk about the Panthers, so I dunno.

I'm not sure we would have gotten much for Peppers. I think it was obvious that the Panthers weren't going to franchise him over and over and the idea of paying him 25 mil with the franchise tag this year would have been insane and crippled the franchise. If I was another owner, I wouldn't have given the Panthers two firsts, 1 first or even a second rounder for him. I would have done what the bears did, sat back, waited for us to let Pep go, then move in and get him and not give the Panthers anything.

I feel like I'm in a "wait and see" approach with JR right now. As I've said numerous times in other threads this year, and years past, I love JR for bringing the NFL here and believe he was truly passionate about it and cared about the fans at one time.

But, this year has really made me question what his motives are at this point.

I still respect him, but I think the presser was horrible and it was in bad taste and timing. I just pray it didn't hurt our chances at getting Luck and good coaches to come here.

So, at this point, it's like I did hold him in such high regard before that this year just kind of leveled me out to a neutral opinion of him. I don't know how I feel about JR or his real intentions right now. So, I'm waiting to see what he does next. Show and prove. Point blank, that's where I'm at.

And he has signed 0.

Edit:

I'm not saying it's good or bad either way, just saying it's something to consider when thinking about his image right now.

lol.. I realize he has signed 0.. I guess I was implying why sign 2-3 when you have an entire core to sign and you need the CBA to determine how to regulate spending..

ANND.. really teams have only signed 1.. I can't think of a team who has signed more than 1 other than the Jets who brought in 3 FA's (or maybe just 2), which also, their contract ends this year..

teams aren't going to f**k themselves before the CBA comes out to know how to spend cap space, not just this year or next year but in future years.. and when you have an entire core to sign, you are going to wait to sign them all.. if you sign 1 or 2, you then tread dangerous waters by pissing the others off..

y'all have to trust JR has more angles figured out than us little people.. there is a bigger picture that most fans are simply incapable of thinking about because they are fans.. they want now, now, now..

actually we've signed 2 Practice Squad players according to Gnatt

The Panthers began the housekeeping portion of their offseason by signing some of their practice squad players to contracts.

Receiver Trent Guy and defensive tackle Tommie Duhart have already signed, and more might in the next few days.

Considering I'm one of those fans who got phone calls even thought I stated in the email that I wasn't a PSL Holder & couldn't afford to pick up tickets-I'd say he cares about the customers. Just maybe not in the way the customer wants.

Not saying the man can do no wrong, just saying that to say he doesn't care is not necessarily accurate.

Plus, it's easy to call someone cheap for not paying $11.4 million to a staff that wasn't here, plus an entirely new staff on top of that, when you're not the one writing the check.

I believe it can and will be turned around. I also believe it's a mistake to keep Hurney on. If hiring an NFL coach is the criteria, why is a converted beat writer the GM?

there are a few teams who have signed 1 player this year.. SF and Texans.. (there may be more, but just off the top of my head)

Jets have brought in players, but I believe their contracts are up this year..

I know the Bills did as well and I'm sure there are more. He has an idea of what the cap will be and these 6-10 players aren't going to make us hit the cap. I doubt we even sign all of them. It should be important however to try and sign guys you see as necessities whether that be DWILL or Kalil or whoever.

Better to piss of a few then piss off them all right?

What surprises me, is anybody who's been following this team from the beginning, should know the type of person Richardson is. He really hasn't changed.

He's become less available to the public. Considering he had a heart transplant, that's understandable.

He still wants to win, despite what you may think you know.

He has every right to go off on the media like he did. The media are idiots. They attacked him on a weekly basis. They had to know a response was coming. Did they think he was going to say "you are right, and thank you very much?"

He did force the team to go with it's youth. It didn't turn out as well as we'd had liked, but that doesn't make him a bad owner. He still spends money, he still wants the best for this franchise, and wants to win more than any fan.

He hasn't changed, yet many fans have turned on him.

If ya don't like the man who owns the team, then you have only 2 options, deal with it, or find yourself another team.

In my humble opinion, if you don't like the owner, ya have no business being a fan. Move on. It'll be better for you, and better for the rest of us.

it might piss more of them off if you sign some of them and not others.

afaik, Marshall is the only pissed off one, and he's been angry for a bit now.
