Jason LaCanfora thinks the Panthers have "a trick up their sleeves"

There doesn't seem to be a lot of deep thought put into anything the Panthers do. Find it hard to believe they're smart enough to get tricky.

I have to respectfully disagree with that. They are very tight lipped and I'm sure JR didn't become the success he is without careful consideration to any of his moves. For some reason I think that the name of our next coach has not been mentioned yet and most likely will not be until they announce his hiring. Maybe I'm wrong, but when they hired Fox we heard many names none of which were Fox.

Even if the Panthers do surprise us, I doubt it will be a pleasant surprise.

Likely a no-name coach with very few good things to talk about.

As soon as our new coach says "it is what it is", this forum will blow a collective gasket.

What happens if Fox 2.0 gets hired here?

If they hire someone who's, say, 80% of John Fox but that 20% that's different will allow an OC to run the offense or will adapt to the meta-game of the NFL then it won't be the end of the world.

Will I be happy? No I will not - as a fan I want to see the ball thrown all around the field willy nilly like it's Madden with real people, but there's a reason I'm a fan and not an NFL exec.

The NFL as a whole shows us that defensive minded HCs can be very successful - the trick is finding one who knows how to delegate (and thus hires assistants who have brains rather than punch-card inputs) and is willing to adapt. If John Fox had done those two things he'd still be here and we'd be a very good football team today IMO.

He doesn't understand that JR really does want a defensive coordinator I believe. And Rivera would/should be a serious candidate for head coach, not defensive coordinator.

Agreed, also the other guys except the 49er guy have jobs as D.C. why come to Charlotte for the same job.
