If Luck Doesn't declare...

If we go 3-13, we're one game better off than we were. Not what I want, but if we bring in Newton and he gives us one more win, and is showing flashes of greatness the whole time, I'll say we upgraded the position over Clausen.

As far as getting him to sign... all we need to do is send a 6-digit check to his dad. Problem solved.

BUT what if we are 3 and 13 and Newton looks lost in the NFL and runs too soon and throws off his backfoot too much, in other words, what if he plays like The Golden Calf of Bristol has been playing this year which means he has shown promise, but also shows that he needs alot of work done.

Vick's passes (in Atlanta) usually were short passes, most of what Vick did wrong in Atlanta was he read a play and ran.

Yeah. That's correct. But when he did pass, he didn't "suck".

that's all you can do when you look at drafts and honestly, i dont see him doing much 6 to 8 yard runs either and if he does, he will do it likely 10 or more times which means he will be hurt, alot.

Again, speculation. We already have a solid stable of RBs even if Williams leaves, all we need to do is get a passer who can make some throws or run if coverage breaks down. Newton is the perfect fit for that.

no, i look at how Young throws in the pros and his motion isnt pretty, but it's usually accurate, his deep balls are the issue. Whenever he throws beyond 23yards, it's usually a bad play for Young.

You cannot compare Young in the pros to Newton in college. Your argument is invalid if you are.

Well in your case THIS is speculation. How do you know Newton is a perfect fit???? how do you know he will run like he did at Auburn??? this is all speculation that's ALL you can do when you talk about players making the transition to the pros, the point is, i dont think Newton is worth the risk and he's not. Mallett and Locker are better picks in my view, but even i wouldnt risk picking them at number one overall.

Yeah, it is speculation. Not saying it isn't. I simply followed up with my take based on the athleticism of the player, and our current needs at the QB position.

Your speculation is based on a fear of injury. Injury can happen to anyone, at any time. If we don't have a line that's blocking well, a pocket passer is going to get creamed. This is exactly what happened to Moore.

We need a scrambling QB imho, and right now, Newton is the best based on college performance. And that's NOT speculation.

The disappointment for me in Clausen, is that he looked like he could throw on the run based on some of his Notre Dame highlights. Unfortunately, he was doing this against less-than top-tier teams, and he didn't have the talent to step up to the pros. I think Cam does, as he's taken on some of the best teams in college and dominated them.

honestly, it's not just fear of injury, it's other things like footwork and reading defenses, you know things like that, that's why i rank Jake Locker over him, he can read defenses, he usually makes poor decisions.

Jake Locker's ability to read defenses may not transition to the pros. The defensive scheme can be vastly different in the pros. In fact, the good defense can hide their play. He could read a Blitz by Polamalu or Reid, and all the sudden they are sprinting back into coverage.

but that same thing goes for Newton.

Problem is - do you really want to make Cam Newton your #1 pick and give him $50mil guaranteed and a $75mil contract??? Yes I would for Luck but not Cam....sorry.

that's part of my issues too.
