Exiting the Harbaugh train

all of that stuff is the reason i have been wanting him as a coach here since fall of '09.

he's smarter and better than the guys across the field and he's going shove that down their throat and smile the whole time. he reminds me of sean payton and belicheck.

i've been pimping him for over a year now. my only regret is that he got this popular nationally (not taking credit for that popularity, btw). he became the hottest ticket around and it was deserved. i'm still hoping something happens and he shows up here, but i've pretty much accepted that it won't happen.

right now i just plan on being disappointed with who we select and a large part of that has to do with a lack of faith in hurney. i just don't trust him to find the best HC possible. i don't trust him to do much of anything right at this point.

Believe me, I understand the disappointment.

But I also understand the decision.

He wants roster control, and wants to be paid one of the highest salaries in the NFL as an unproven coach. Will he eventually prove to be worth it? Maybe, but that's a heck of a gamble.

Giving him the things he wants essentially would be no different than paying an unproven college QB a 75 million dollar salary and allowing him to call his own plays. Yeah, you might succeed with the right guy, but it's a hellacious risk.

For me, I'm going to move on and hope we get the best guy we can. Ideally, we want the next Mike Smith. And since Harbaugh moving on likely means we get Luck, I think we'll be okay.

Look at what Smith has done in Atlanta...I think that's exactly the kind of guy JR, Hurney, & Morrison will be after.

It seems to me the NFL should be a small enough community that just about everyone in a leadership role knows or knows of the strengths and weaknesses of every candidate worth considering. Despite the bad impression from parts of yesterday's presser, I'm confident - well let's just say "cautiously optimistic" - the Panthers are NOT going to screw this up.

The 49ers may do that on their own. By the end of his rounds he may decide to beg Carolina to hire him. I just do not see why he would want to put his neck out so early. I guess the saying is true, strike while the Iron is hot. I wanted him really bad before this.. but if he gets a job for anyone but Carolina, I hope Epic Fail and I am not ashamed to admit that. fug HIM.

I am 100% behind this statement. Latest from ESPN--the hype machine-- Harbaugh is interviewing with the SF owner (York) at an undisclosed location right now.
