Mortensen Trashes Richardson/Luck to Panthers on Mike and Mike

This is one of the things I hate about being a small market team. National reporters don't know poo about us and they never report on us, so when they finally do it ends up being ridiculous speculation. Yes JR was cheap this year but heaven forbid you think back to last year where we payed a player $1 million per game (plus some incentives if I remember correctly), and a few years back we gave Smith a very hefty extension. It'd be too difficult to find JR's comments from this year where he has said going cheap is a one year thing and that next year he will spend money like he always had.

I had that ESPN and all these "big time" national guys can just get on air and say what ever they want and have people including coaches/players believe it, it just sets us back even further.

Luck is a competitor. So why wouldn't he want to go to a team to help turn it around? He's done it once already, with stanford.

I'm sure he'll do his research.

Not just that. He also has to face the fact that he could be playing for Buffalo next year.

There's a lot worse places than Charlotte, NC.

Just said JR is in bad mood about the CBA and made you scratch your head with some of the things he said yesterday.

Was talking about Harbaugh possibilities and then it led into Luck's situation... He then said if there is no CBA in place and no rookie scale, Luck should get 50+ mil and said he's not sure JR is willing to pay that much.

Also said Mularkey could end up being interviewed by us but he's too expensive for our taste, lol.

Well, that presser worked...

I'm starting to feel Luck may not want to come out upon further consideration.

Yup, the Panthers haven't finished worse than 8-8 in the past 9 years leading up until this one season where we clearly are going through a rebuilding process. If you go back to school and come out next year you could easily find yourself on the Bills, Browns or Raiders...

So what are they gonna say when we draft him and pay him? Not a peep, I bet you that much

Oh once we draft him we'll be the belle of the ball during preseason. You remember how much press attention we got the first week during the season it was announced Jimmy was going to be the starter. We were on EVERY show. Now just imagine that with the #1 pick...

I do think Luck comes out. Harbaugh leaving will be the clincher for him. Now, I really hope Luck and his agent won't try the forced trade crap. Charlotte lost Kobe because they caved to his agent but Kode said he would have played for the Hornets if they didnt trade him.

Consider that most everyone in the NFL knows about the media and how it works through personal experience, and about all the BS they print, and I do not think most coaches or players give a rats a$$ about what ESPN or any other NFL sports news outlet says.

True but college players do..

...and I read an article that said Luck turns off ESPN when they start talking about him, he doesn't want to buy into his own hype or get caught up in what the sports media thinks.

yeah I have heard that too.

JR's never been cheap with coaches.
