They should've been aware of this, and to save face atleast sign a couple decent Free Agents last year. Branding matters, if the national Perception of the Panthers is the one Luck now holds it may keep him in school.

As a player you take the job that is there. While Jerry didn't do any favors to the organization with his press conference yesterday, Luck isn't going to miss another year just to end up on the Browns, lions or Panthers anyway for less money.

I, and most everyone here, knows it's false and why it is out there, as well as where JR's appeared to draw his lines (current players, no moves until new CBA except for the draft).

But, we are getting so much negative attention right now, I just hope prospective employees aren't influenced at all. As Mr. Scot has often said, he doesn't think coaches for instance would make decisions based on media reports. But, I'm concerned that once you reach a certain low in the media, some people won't even talk to you or even make contact through a intermediary because they think they know you (the Panthers/JR)...

Consider that most everyone in the NFL knows about the media and how it works through personal experience, and about all the BS they print, and I do not think most coaches or players give a rats a$$ about what ESPN or any other NFL sports news outlet says.

Actions speak louder then words. Especially when the words are coming from an outside party. A simple phone call to Luck once he declares and some money spent in FA to show we are willing to build a team around him that can be successful (signing guys like Kalil, Deangelo and FA like Mankins, Bailey and others) I think will show Luck that this team is dedicated to winning long term and spending the money to do so.....

The problem is that we need him to declare before we can do all that, and with crap like this floating out there daily, he may figure he's in a better situation than what he would be coming to here.

I think Harbaugh isn't returning our calls because he wants almost full personnel control. Something JR isn't willing to give a coach. I'm sure it doesn't make us look good but I hardly think it's anything to get worried about. There are avenues to go through to make sure Luck isn't misinformed, I'm sure our FO has already started going through those channels. If Luck goes back to school I seriously doubt it's going to be because he thinks the Panthers wont try to surround a winning team around him.....

The CBA expires in March, and rookies are not signed until June-July.

Rookie wage scale will be in place by the time they are signed.

and if I am wrong, good for us. That is a guarantees that Luck will come out. No way he gives aways 25-30 million dollars.

Saltman I'm hearing the same thing as you from most people. It seems no one knows for sure rather the new CBA agreement would set rookie wages for the 2011 draft. Most seem to believe there will be a gradual implementation or won't take effect until the 2012 draft... even though the 2011 draft is after the expiration of the CBA. Either way this kind of thinking can work in order favor for Luck declaring.

PD I agree with you 100% The overwhelming media negative perceptions does matter and can have some effects on Lucks decision. If everyone starts believing this, and Luck, his parents, and other influential people start believing we are a poorly ran franchise then it Will be a factor in his decision making process. Honestly, when he thinks it thru one of the question will be do I want to go to Carolina right now? All of this negative perception can sway that factor of his the wrong way.
