Good lord, stop bashing Jimmy....

I agree that Jimmy should sit on the bench - but I really don't feel like he should even be in the hunt for starter next year. I have no problem with letting him battle it out for the number two role with whoever else is in camp as practice squad fodder but I'd like to see our draft pick + someone else competing for the starting role. Jimmy hasn't shown enough this season to indicate that over the summer he's going to suddenly develop into a quality NFL start IMO

So what happens if/when we pick Luck and he is slow to pick up our system? What if Clausen comes out with determination in TC and becomes a more vocal leader?

It would appear that a draft pick, Clausen and a vet pickup will be on the team. Would you rather throw another rookie out there even if he isn;t ready, just because Clausen had a bad year this year?

QBs generally progress guys after their 2nd TC...

And how many times was he sacked? He had a few problems early with the snap likely due to nerves, for the most part they seem to have gone.

Do we focus on the 5-6 fumbled snaps, or the fact that he hardly ever put the ball on the ground when getting hit?

No, he didn't fumble too many times while being sacked. But how many times was he sacked as a result of a blindside hit (where most fumbles come from)? Many of his sacks came either from either the interior or as a result of him getting happy feet in the pocket and trying to run around rather than step up.

It's not bashing though just because our opinion isn't favorable towards him. You think he's progressed and will progress throughout his career. I've seen him play since HS and watched all three college years and this year. If you watch him play and don't look at numbers, his play is the same every single year. Checkdowns, fades, wide open guys, scramble. It's been the same forever so excuse me if I don't share your blind optimism.

I'm also a fan of looking at what tools the player brings to their position and seeing how well I think those tools will translate to success rather than looking into hype and numbers.

It's funny how people who aren't his fans anymore base it on HIS actual play but his few supporters base their opinions on potential and what they HOPE he can be and blah blah blah yet we are the unrealistic ones.

Sh*t in one hand and hope in the other...

There's a lot of if statements in there. My opinion, based on what he showed last year, is that he should enter camp as a defacto backup and the draft pick / FA signing should be contending for a starting spot (I will not set a name to the draft pick because I'm not certain we'll end up with who we want).

IF he shows up as a completely different QB and IF the FA / Draft pick are not capable starters than I assume the best QB would start. But that's a lot of "ifs". The QB that walked off of the field after the last game of this season should not be starting for the Panthers at this stage in his career.

So whose minds are we trying to change here? The only folks who count are Hurney and the scouts who are picking in the draft. And they have said that they are picking Luck if he comes out. They obviously feel that Luck would be a huge upgrade over Clausen as does everyone else. They recognize that Clausen did not show enough to pin our future hopes on him.

People who defend Clausen will do so now, a year from now, and likely forever. There is no need to debate back and forth. They will believe Clausen is the answer and we will wait to see if Luck comes out. If he does, we will get to see the battle next year for the starting position. If Luck is even half the quarterback people say he is, it won't even be close.

Wow you jimmy fans are a funny bunch...... did you guys ever see him play in college??? He sucked, the only reason he looked decent is because of golden tate.

And the kid can't throw over 10 yards to save his life plus he throws more passes out of bounds than he does to recievers....oh wait he doesn't even throw to wideouts he throws to his rb's.

So how about jimmy stops sucking then maybe we will stop bashing.

But i guess most of you guys are satisfied with below average playing. I mean you guys loved dj and thought " he will breakout next season " for like the whole time he was here soooo i guess i shouldnt expect anything different.

Soooo hopefully jimmy can play two times better than he did this year and maybe we can score 6 td's all year! !!!!!!!!

This is essentially the point most are trying to make.

There was everything wrong with our offense as a whole this year, so chucking in a rookie to manage it all was a recipe for disaster. I personally feel he has shown signs of progressing and his collegiate career shows he makes good jumps between seasons.

I am happy to sit and watch Luck & Clausen battle for the top of the depth chart next season, pending Luck comes out.

The recipe for disaster was made in the offseason and I have been vocal about that. I also said that Moore was better and if he got hurt and Clausen came in, we would be in a world of hurt and we were. So none of this was surprise to me at all. I knew Clausen would look like David Carr and it wasn't all his fault. Not enough veterans, the inevitable injuries, lack of committment by ownership to the team, etc.

I think we just disagree about his potential. Unless he grows 4 inches, develops a much stronger arm, gets rid of the sidearm throw, develops a better pocket presence, and spends a whole lot of time in the film room, I don't seeing him making that much of a leap.

I just wish we went with the actual draft projections and drafted Golden Tate. We could of then picked up Pike in the later rounds to develop as a Project, and we never would have wasted that 2nd round pick on Armanti Edwards.

Gettis or Lafell is probably not on the team in that scenario. I think AE was getting drafted regardless.
