Ryan Mallet =

if, if, if. What if...I can only go on what I see. and What I saw was Ryan Mallet throw the game losing interception. Andrew luck won last night

See: Peyton Manning, Super Bowl vs. New Orleans. It happens.

Yes I did and under pressure he went down like a sack of bricks. I gave him his props on the nice throws he had but he was far from excellent. Mallet+Pressue=Bad results (see the last pay)

Pretty sure I saw Luck get squirmy a couple of times Monday, even throwing what should have been a pick 6. I haven't really watched much college ball this year and was definitely impressed with Luck's bowl performance, so I can't compare them directly - just offering some perspective.

Mallet is an improving QB at this point. The biggest knock against him coming in to this year was his accuracy, well he completed 66% of his passes and averaged 9.9 YPA against SEC defenses this season. Isn't that what everybody is knocking Luck for, that he didn't play any legit defenses?

Look, I'm not saying Mallet is the better QB I just don't think he turns into Alex Smith.

Mallett is gonna be drafted by someone and eventually they will be very happy with him. I think both the SEC QB's are over hyped. Cam and Mallett look like franchise QB's. They make some great plays, but the NFL is not college. Their physical advantages will be matched by faster db's and bigger dlineman. It will take time for them to adjust.

Tell me Al Davis is not drooling over this kid. A white Jemarcus? Could be or he could be the big armed QB of the Raiders dreams.

Alex Smith...Luck has to come out or we aint taken a qb...

DISAGREE, he's not Alex Smith. Smith could run and was VERY smart. Mallett isnt as smart as Smith and isnt mobile, he is a slower version of Jay Cutler, think of Cutler's passes and look at Mallett, VERY similar.

I have a feeling Locker just moved in front of him.

Disagree, I think Mallett will be liked by Arizona and the 49ers and so will Gabbert, Locker will likely fall to Washington, i dont see Arizona taking Locker and same with the 49ers, i see Mallett or Gabbert going there and if Mallett falls, it's because of Gabbert, not Locker, i dont see Washington getting Mallett because i think Shanahan wants a QB to run the bootleg which means Locker.

If Luck doesn't declare I see us getting Newton.

AND that move would NOT be wise. Newton is as ready to start as Clausen was this year. i see bad things for Carolina if Newton starts too soon, i see him running too soon resulting in either fumbles or injuries and i dont think he has the Vick speed to run like Vick does.

Reminds me of a tall, green, Philip Rivers.

i think he has the size and mobility of Rivers, but i still think of Cutler with his arm, Mallett is a gunslinger, short and simple. he tries to win with his arm and forces throws.

under pressure he went down like a sack of bricks. Mallet+Pressue=Bad results

Yep, very true, that's one of my major issues with Mallett, when under pressure he usually cant get away resulting in either a sack or interception or fumble

As I said earlier, he isn't a bust, but hes not #1 overall material. He'll get picked up by a team that needs a QB, but hes around 15-20 imo

Agreed, i personally like Luck, Locker and Gabbert over him, BUT i think a team may pick him higher than 15-20, i see Luck (if he goes pro) coming to Carolina, Gabbert being a 49er, Locker being a Redskin, Mallett being a Viking and Newton being a Dolphin.

Plenty of time on the clock, NO reason to force that ball. horrible decision.

Agreed, that throw was forced, it was not a good decision especially considering that they had the ball at a good spot, just throw it away and play another down.

agreed, on paper they look like franchise QB's, but they wont be great soon, honestly, i think Mallett will be a better rookie (if they start in their first years) than Newton because i think Newton will try to make plays with his feet alot and not do well, i expect Mallett to throw some touchdowns, but throw some interceptions, maybe have stats of 19 tds and 29 ints, i could see that for his final stats in his rookie year honestly. that's how much he reminds me of Cutler.

mallett = ryan leaf/jemarcus russell. big QB with a cannon arm that people foolishly believe is enough to succeed.

i dont think he's Leaf or Russell because i think he will try harder than both and wont be a problem to the media, i do think he throws some big interceptions though and makes one good play, but one bad play.

Just to clarify, I was agreeing with you :) Luck made a couple of poor choices too... he just got away with them. Mallett didn't.

1) he isn't Peyton Manning

2) That interception was his fault too.

1) Anything is possible, but Mallett likely won't approach Manning's level. Wasn't trying to compare them - just showing that even the best do some stupid things sometimes.

2) Sure was. Both were poor decisions forcing a throw when it wasn't necessary.

The thing I liked about Luck was the way he managed to avoid pressure most of the time it was there, extend plays, and find open areas that he could throw into for his receivers.

I do think this draft has tons of QB potential in it and though I do hope Luck declares I'm not going to kill myself if he doesn't. With the right staff in place, any of the top 5 qbs in the draft could really turn out well.

btw, I remember me saying hes still going in the first round, and not a bust. but hes not top 10, not even close.

So wait.

You have the play right there in front of you and you still can't see the thought process of Mallet? Ha, ok, noted.

same here, he's smarter than all the QBs in the draft, he's got a big arm, though not as big as Mallett's. He's got accuracy and he can run and can make NFL reads.

Well, i think Luck can work if he declares. Mallett could work once he quits forcing throws, Gabbert could be good too, l like Locker's potential, i still think Newton should sit on the bench being a QB for a year, then take over.
