Great Artice on JR by Rick Bonnell

regardless of your thoughts about richardson, that press conference didn't really shed a good light on the panthers.

they are going to have to do an extra amount of damage control in coming weeks. the HC pick is going to have to be a homerun selection that can immediately cast a positive light on the club.

Another thing i'd like to add...

The fans and media have shown disrespect on a weekly basis. Daily basis for many fans.

And y'all are upset when the man responds? Saying he is disrespectful and embarressing? Then what the hell does that make y'all?

I'll be nice and not say anything further on that subject.

on a roll.. don't stop now..

I disagree.. I fail to see how Richardson setting a precedent on media accountability is a bad thing.. If there is a bad light shed it's the damaged ego of the media who will shed it and we already know the media is full of poo majority of the time..

and if this is the case, smarter men should ignore hearsay..

The only thing I really had a problem with was the Morgan Fogarty obsession... I don't know if he's a dirty old man, but he sure came off looking like one.

I'm not faulting the guy for focusing his attention on a hot young blonde, but there's a time and a place for that and it's not your first press conference in 9 years coming off a 2-14 season.

...and don't think Morgan won't continue to flirt with the old man to get a story, I'm sure nothing would give her more pleasure then to try and lure JR into some sort of racy sex scandal like George Shinn, JR's pelt would look very nice in Morgan's new primetime anchor office.

no he didn't.. furthest from the case..

nevermind.. I see we aren't trying to be reasonable with what went on in the press conference..

I don't think it was JR's intent to be a dirty old man, but I'm not the only person who's afraid he came off looking like one...

I'm being very reasonable, these media outlets live for the big story and I'm sure there's a FOX exec sitting in his office right now thinking about how Morgan could potentially be used to get JR in hot water... especially after his media-bashing session yesterday. These media folks have as big an ego as anyone and they don't like being shown up.

you mean there are idiots out in the world who are swayed by unsubstantiated stories? that would be correct...

to worry about this is wasted energy.. there was nothing about that press conference than any intelligent person will take negatively.. that includes Luck, potential coaches, or anyone that might work for the Panthers..

and if someone in those positions took that press conference badly, then chances are their intelligence isn't high enough to work there anyway..

Perception is reality, it's one of the first things you learn in public relations. What's done is done, so there's no point in worrying about it now but I would recommend JR lay off the Morgan thing for a while so people don't start to get the wrong idea.

Remember when Howard Cosell commented that an african-american player was "jumping around like a monkey" and it destroyed his long and distinguished broadcasting career?

Howard Cosell was the furthest thing from a racist, it was just one of those off-hand comments that popped out of his mouth and destroyed his career. Was it right or fair that it destroyed his career? no... but it did.

When you are a public figure like JR, you have to be VERY CAREFUL about controlling perception and focusing your attention on a hot young blonde several times during a press conference, no matter how pure your intentions are, is not a good way to control perception.

The press conference itself should never become a bigger story then the stories that were discussed in the press conference, but it has - so by definition that's a failed press conference. Like someone else said on here, if you have to explain that something was an inside joke, then it probably would have been best to keep it an inside joke...

I understand the point you are making.. I just don't agree it's a big deal.

any fool can see there was nothing to take the wrong way..

JR wasn't even on the radar of Howard Cosell reference.. lol

I think it's about time he became a dick. This poo we have been dealing with the past 9 years has become more than old. Maybe this time our new coach will have no question about what JR wants. To me Fox became much to comfortable.

and that's the stance he took.. he wants to win and made it clear that is the goal.

I feel pretty good at the moment with our owner and FO..
