Gabbert is much more NFL ready than Newton FWIW.

What the hell do you see here that makes him so good? Some nice 3-yard scrambles and soaring passes? You're the one who doesn't have a clue. Watch his footwork. Jumps on screen passes, throws off his back foot. If anything, this shows how good his WRs and backs are at breaking off runs on 5-yard passes.

You said he has "no arm." You also said he has bad mechanics, and then in the next sentence you said you wanted to draft Newton if Luck wasn't there.

And then in the grainy homemade youtube video you posted where he "throws off his back foot," it has him scrambling and throwing bubble screens before the 1:06 mark where he throws an absolute bomb about 65 yards with perfect mechanics.

Gabbert's also played three full college seasons whereas Newton has played less than one.

He didn't even complete it. He missed the receiver by a mile. Seriously, watch his feet when he throws, he jumps over half the time. If you call that good mechanics, I salute you. He should go about 20th-25th overall, not 1st.

I've wathched him for three years. He doesn't jump when he throws. Those are screen passes. You're not even supposed to plant your feet throwing those.

I'm not saying he deserves to be the #1 pick. I'm just saying you haven't a clue what you're talking about with his arm strength, and I'm also saying that after the combine, rightfully so or not, he'll be a top 10 pick easy. His skill set/size combo are equal, if not better, than Cam Newton, and he's not nearly the "character risk," and he's played 3x as much meaningful football.

I agree. If you are a numbers guy, compare his career stats to Luck's. Not close.

Gabbert hasn't run a play under center in a while. I believe his high school had the same offense as Mizzou. You see him take a lot of the snaps out of the shotgun so it could be a transition for him to a pro style offense. I'd take Newton over this guy.

His knocks are going to be the offense he ran at Mizzou and how poorly he dealt with pocket pressure and picking up blitzes in college. I blame a lot of that on Pinkel who couldn't find his ass with a flashlight, but some of it is genuine criticism.

I still think he's more ready for the pro-game than Newton who is going to need a couple years to change his mechanics and decision making skills to be effective in the pros. That guy makes throws in college that will never fly in the pros, and he relies on his scrambling to get out of trouble much more than Gabbert.
