Guys like Saban and Butch Davis are actually closer comparisons to Harbaugh than Jimmy Johnson would be.

Both were NFL assistants (defensive coordinators) before moving down to the college ranks. They later ascended back up, and it didn't go well either time. And truthfully, both had more NFL coaching experience than Harbaugh does.

You could definitely make a case...
