Todd McShay had a great reason why we shouldn't hire Harbaugh

Hiring an up and coming assistant has worked for the Steelers, Packers, Falcons, Saints, etc. and signs point in the right direction for both the Rams and Bucs--mainly due to the fact that those last two teams finally have franchise QBs to build around. You may be able to throw the Chiefs in that discussion as well.

Not getting Harbaugh doesn't either me much because Luck is the key to our long term success--I think we can be a good team with the Philly coordinator or Rivera, as long as we have that franchise guy to elevate everything around him.

And again, for the record, I was touting Harbaugh before Luck was ever even considered to be a possibility for coming out.

I want Harbaugh because I truly believe he will be a good coach, and that's why, at the least, I thought he should be interviewed.

Push comes to shove, I want him to leave Stanford either way to further influence Luck in coming out. And I would take Luck over Harbaugh if I had to choose, as the package deal is pretty much a fantasy...

That being said, get a franchise QB and they'll make an average coach the best in the league. Check how Belichick looked pre-New England (and without videotaping abilities).

I agree with all of this. Both will be great, but I would take Luck over Harbaugh when I had to choose.

So I'm not going to get all bent out of shape when these non-Harbaugh candidates keep getting mentioned because that's not actually a sign of us getting Luck or not at all.

Haven't seen this point made anywhere else so I thought I'd throw it out there. On the Mac Attack today, Todd McShay said that a Harbaugh/Luck package wouldn't work because he couldn't believe they would want to be tied together forever. Basically he thinks that Luck would want his own identity in the pros and try to get away from being linked to his dad and Harbaugh. Also, McShay said that other players on the team might be very resentful and wary of favoritism towards Luck because Harbaugh recruited him out of high school and was his college coach. For example, if you're Jimmy Clausen, do you really think you're going to be evaluated fairly by Harbaugh when the #1 pick is a guy he's known and taught since he went after him in high school?

Lol does Jimmy think any coach in this league will evaluate him fairly with Luck on the team?

It wouldn't just be Jimmy and it probably just wouldn't be any other non-Luck quarterbacks on the team next year. The point was that the roster as a whole would be suspicious of this shiny new coach and shiny new quarterback coming in at the same time from the same place with a long history between the two. It wouldn't just be limited to Clausen.
