Some 49er fans think they can trade us Gore + a few picks for..

The only way Andrew Luck is going to play for Carolina is if he wants to. Even though Carolina has the #1 pick they don't own him. You had all better hope that the 49ers don't hire Jim Harbaugh because that could ruin your plans to get Luck. I don't think the chances of it happening are great, but it could happen. All Luck has to do is say "I don't want to play for you" and Carolina will be compelled to trade the pick and be compensated accordingly. It's been done before on a few occasions. John Elway did it. So did Eli Manning.

Besides, Carolina has a lot of needs and could use the extra draft picks. Luck's agent will make his case known before he even declares for the draft. If Carolina refuses to budge then Luck can go back to Stanford for another year and Carolina could draft Nick Fairley instead. He's the impact player of the draft and is worth a #1 if Luck isn't available. But again, the only way you're getting Luck is if he WANTS to play for Carolina. We'll see.

You can't just "undeclare".

And Luck pulling a Manning doesn't "compel" Carolina to do anything. They can take him and either demand a ridiculous trade that no one would give or - more likely - just tell him "play for us or nobody" which would force him to sit out a year and enter next year's draft.

It's a little late to create a name on another teams' messageboard just to try and hate on the shittiest team in football, the team that beat the 49ers, no?

He wouldn't be "undeclaring". What I'm saying is that he could test the waters before he decides to declare. A lot is going to happen this week, and a lot of it depends on what Jim Harbaugh decides to do. Luck has until January 15th to declare. That gives Harbaugh plenty of time to make his decision.

And Luck pulling a Manning absolutely does compel Carolina to trade the pick. Sure, Luck doesn't want to sit out a season, but Carolina doesn't want to waste a #1 pick either. Carolina does not really have the leverage if the player they want doesn't want to play for them. Trading down from #1 to #7 still puts them in a position to draft a blue chip prospect as well as get other draft picks that they desperately need.

Personally, I think Luck will choose to stay at Standford another year. Carolina is not getting him.

They can draft him and then trade him at any time or just tell him play and shut up. He doesn't want to sit out a year. JR is no pussy

On a side note, everyone can spot a 49er fan from a mile away. You should go make yourself feel better on your own board.

I'm not trollin. I'm just saying that Luck will play for Carolina if, and only if he wants to. You're all acting like he has no control over his fate when he, in fact, does. I used examples like Elway and Manning to illustrate that what I'm saying is hardly unprecedented. Who knows, maybe Luck does want to play for Carolina. We'll find out soon enough.

I have no hate for Carolina. Good luck. Hopefully next season will be better.

If he stays, then neither are you.

And if Harbaugh wants to take Luck that badly, he could just as easily sign to coach Carolina. He once played here, and stated in an interview that he liked the organization.

As far as the 49ers, you might get Harbaugh, but I wouldn't bet anything on you getting both him and Luck.

Manning is so popular  Chargers did it because it gave them a shitload of picks and a better QB in Rivers. (btw.. your 49ers have a 7th pick. No one wants it) Elway did it to a shitty team that was moving in the early '80s.

This kid is not a piece of poo like Elway or Manning.

there is no reason for Luck to not want to play for Carolina. they aren't annual losers like the 49ers or most other teams you find in the top 10 of the draft.

he's thrilled to get the chance to be drafted by a team who is actually sometimes decent. the Panthers were 12-4 just a little bit ago.

This one here is laughing with us

I'd like so say that majority of those SF fans know their poo. It's idiots like this Coldrain or whatever that makes them look stupid.

Some of them are hanging their hats on the idea that he won't declare for some reason.

In 2011 he's probably losing his coach, and losing 7 of 11 starters on offense, including most of his O-Line and all of his starting WRs.

The chances of him equaling his 2010 success after losing all of that are tiny. But even if he does manage to and is picked #1 in 2012, there is still the possibility of losing 10s of millions of dollars due to the CBA.

When you factor this into the fact that the world ends in late 2012, he probably wants to at least play 1 season in the NFL before then.

BTW I didn't fact check this post, at all even.
