well, coulda been a compromise last year.

"Hey Bill, wait 1 year, we'll open all the cap space we can so you have plenty of $$$$ for FA, the team won't win the dividsion because we are gonna gut it - but Fox will take the heat for that. Give me your input on the 2010 draft so we can get a headstart on who you might want - see ya in Jan 2011" oh and bonus = you get #1 pick in 2011.

Cowher is a guy who wouldn't get a 'formal interview' anywhere.. you don't really interview guys like him. You know what you are getting with him.

They interviewed Seifert.

Based on everything I've read, i expect the Panthers coaching search to end without Cowher (or Gruden, for that matter) even being considered.

I think Cowher realizes that his window is starting to close. He has been out for 4 years and you can't stay out of coaching forever. I would imagine that you start to lose your edge. Also, there are other big names in the mix now. With you know who and Jeff Fisher in the mix, Cowher has competition. Plus, JR may be willing to give Cowher a little more control based on some of our personnel decisions recently.

I think Cowher is the guy. He could have moved anywhere once he retired from the Steelers. I am not saying he moved to Raleigh b/c he wanted to coach the Panthers, instead he moved there because he loves the area. You can't put a price on that. Plus JR is one of the most respected men in the NFL and we are a wanna be Steelers organization. I just have a feeling.

I find it interesting that Cowher and Gruden don't seem to be getting attention like Harbaugh and numerous assistants. Theories?

Simple. They want complete control which Richardson won't give them. He said as much in the press conference. The last 3 times we asked what the head coaches needed. This time we are going to tell them what we need. In other words this is how we do business, fit within our parameters or we will look elsewhere.

Hence why Harbaugh won't be here either. It isn't the money it is the control.
