(Theory) Coach Cowher to be next Panthers head coach

You have a good point there. Hand picking your entire staff would be extremely appealing for any head coach, however, I do think Carolina holds some cards with Harbaugh as well. We have the rights to his Quarterback whom he declared as the 'best quarterback prospect EVAR!'.

If he goes to Denver it unfortunately may not matter.....

I think the only way he goes to Denver is if the Panthers simply are not interested in aquiring him. Carolina would logically be the best choice for Harbaugh.

I wasn't getting any feedback, and wanted to know some opinion's on my theory. I just made a new thread. :)

I hear ya.. I actually agree with you on the theory. Living in NC, deciding to come back now after 4 years....Oh yeah Fox is done this year...Everyone on the pre game shows joking with Cowher about him coming here..

I'll be shocked if Cowher ends up in Carolina.

First of all, I doubt we can afford him. If we get into any sort of bidding war for his services, it's over! And with Miami wanting him and willing to spend big bucks, you can count him out.

Secondly, I know many fans love how Carolina stays under the radar from the national media and although some coaches enjoy that, I don't think Cowher is one of them. Cowher likes the spotlight and he isn't going to get it in Charlotte. I see him in Miami... Carolina would be an absolute shock.

As far as Jerry letting go of the entire coaching staff, as a sign that he's interested in Cowher... I don't get it. New head coaches normally bring along their own staff, so it's normal to fire the old head coach along with all of his staff.

I personally feel that coaching is the least of our issues. I feel like we need to overhaul the general manager position or our scouting department. I'll agree that Hurney is good with numbers, but this teams inability to draft a complement to Steve Smith, trade away good draft picks for junk, and just fail to snag talent in late rounds... is the scariest thing in my opinion.

Aside from drafting good runningbacks, Hurney and company have made plenty of horrible decisions on draft days.

Do we actually know that Hurney is going to be GM still. Who knows' date=' he may go back to his old salary cap role....[/quote']

I can not imagine Hurney not coming back. Why exactly would they have Hurney conduct the head coaching search only to fire him??

NFL.com is reporting that Miami is out of the picture.

What I meant is that he may be taking a demotion in order to stay with the organization. No one else is going to hire Marty Hurney he's not exactly a genius when it comes to player evaluations. Could Hurney not go back to his salary cap role where he focuses on player contracts (a position he excels at)?.....

I don't understand why some people believe Jerry Richardson will not spend on a head coach. John Fox was in the top 5 paid head coaches in the NFL. JR is willing to spend the money. He did spend this season because of the labor situation, and he set up our next head coach with an amazing cap room. It was strictly posturing. In no way was this past season indicative of JR's willingness to spend, or lack there of. JR has always opened his wallet for quality coaches, and quality FA's.

Anything is possible but I just don't see it. I do not think JR holds your view of Hurney at all based on things he's said.

Most of us don't think money is why we won't have Cowher.

Hurney is one reason. Others have been listed here and elsewhere; suffice to say I just don't think he is the right direction for the team... Just don't really want a retread personally.
