Steve Smith

Though two seasons remain on his contract, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has remained the subject of rumors regarding his future, whether it be in Carolina or elsewhere. Smith was inactive for the Panthers' season finale on Sunday, and after the game he was vague about his thoughts on the future.

"Despite what I may feel right now or last month or tomorrow, it's a decision that really the input goes in at home," Smith said, per Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer. "People may think I'm hiding behind that, but ultimately, in any business, it has to sit well at home with everybody, stay or go. Right now, I can say I want to stay here for the next 15 years, but we don't even know what three months are going to look like for the NFL."

Ultimately, Smith is not the one in control, as he is under contract. Even if he does demand to be traded, the team does not have to acquiesce to that demand, and he'll have to grin and bear it with a new head coach and possibly a new quarterback. The next few weeks may influence this situation greatly.

that's what it says

I think its was obvious this season that Smith doesnt have the patience to go through a rebuilding year or 2. And I think with his arogance, may have impeaded Clausens development. Smith wants to win, he needs to be sent where he can do that. Call me crazy, but I can see Steve Smith playing for the Colts in 2011.
