Metal detecting?

lmao...

While looking up reviews on a certain metal detector, I came across these gems:

What a wonderful machine. If you didn't know the price you would think it was a top rung machine. I had it for only 5 mins and started using it in the back yard. Within 10 mins I had a strong signal, the dig revealed a solid gold ring still on the finger of an old ladies corpse. I tried it on a local beach and found a small nugget of bleepcronite - thought to be an alien amalgum. This detector would be useful if searching for the ark of the covernant or similar lost treasures ( dodo bones ?? ) Buy one and enjoy.

As soon as I took it out of he box, I went out into the backyard and found an Iron Maiden armband with spikes! Yesterday me and my buddy Earl were using it near LA, and we found a ring that said Judas Priest from the 80's.

I got my Tracker IV last week, and I love it! Already found the corpse of a Civil War soldier, complete with rifle and bayonet. I've found several coins from the Revolution, and even some WWII daggers. Very easy to use and understand. The two-tone mode is excellent. Go get one today!

Anyone do this?

I'm considering buying a pretty nice detector and starting a new hobby... just wondering if anyone had any advice...

What do you want to know?

Detector recommendations:

Whatever machine you get, it takes time to learn all it can do for you.

Great Msg Board:

If you live in the Carolinas there are great places to "detect" along with buried caches from the Civil War. (err War of Northern Agression.)

City parks are a great place to "detect", but Charlotte gets a little funny about digging holes. Of course the Carolina's have great beaches. Also, churches and school grounds.

My father-in-law has a White's Electronics metal detector. He's found lots if stuff, especially at the beach (Oak Island). He mostly just finds change on the beach (usually enough for a DQ run), but he has found a couple of necklaces and a Spanish Piece of Eight (Silver coin).
