Why would they bother contacting him all the way out in san diego just for a designated Rooney Rule Candidate they could have just interviewed Meeks or Skipper..for that.

It almost seems like the are in a hurry to get this out of the way. As in, interviewing him first, in case they want to hire the next guy right after his interview.

I get that feeling too. Harbaugh is busy right now, so go ahead and do this. However, Rivera is an upgrade, the best 4-3 DC in the NFL. If he becomes the coach, we will be awesome on that side of the ball. I have no idea why he has not been hired. If I were a minority, I would hate the Rooney rule. It wastes people's time. I sincerely believe for the same reason it was necessary 15 years ago, it is not necessary now.

Have we talked about how stupid the Rooney Rule is? Rivera is qualified enough to get an interview regardless of skin color, but Richardson interviewing Jim Skipper when both know he's not getting the job would just be lame as hell.

I'm for getting rid of this or at least tweaking it so it's not incredibly obvious when teams are interviewing non-candidates just because they're minority.

Crazy Theory: We have already agreed (unofficially) on a head coach and he insists that we bring in a top DC. So Rivera interviews as a head coach to satisfy the Rooney Rule, and is offered DC/Assistant Head Coach.
