Panthers interviewing Ron Rivera

Basically what I've heard from the national media, JR is cheap, will go after some mediocre assistant that he won't have to pay very much, won't even consider Harbaugh or Cowher. Probably nothing but speculation based on our payroll this one season with zero real inside knowledge.

the national media knows that they make all thier money from viewers in large markets, so they concentrate on big market teams. It shows everyday how little they really know about smaller market teams in all sports. But, they don't have to care, because they get all thier pay from the larger markets.

I don't get why people are not taking Rivera seriously. Rivera, imo, is more of a logical choice then Harbaugh for several reasons:

1) History has shown with the Panthers (which has only had 3 HCs) that they have gone the route of coordinators. Only once have they gone after a high profile head coach and that got them no where. There success has come from low profiled guys like Capers and Fox who both have led the Panthers to the playoffs and one Superbowl.

2) The two coordinators come from defensive backgrounds and likely is what Richardson likes. Rivera fits that profile for running an stong defense that is feared by most around the league.

3) The argument that "we need an offensive minded coach to succeed" is flawed. Rivera could easily bring in someone who has had success with other teams and develop Clausen (or Luck if he declares) along with the rest of the offense. John Ramsdell is a example of a guy that Rivera could possibly bring over from SD who has develop QBs like Kurt Warner and MVP Phillip Rivers.

4) Richardson wants to emulate the Steelers by controlling the clock stopping the run and run to set up the pass and if there is one thing Rivera knows about is those basic concept although I think Rivera would run more of an aggressive defense.

5) For those worried about him switching to a 3-4 defense, no worries because he has ran the 4-3 both in Chicago as a defensive coordinator and also in Philly as a LB coach. He could easily adapt back to the 4-3 scheme again.

So several reasons to hire Rivera as HC

ik i am pleasantly suprised and intrigued to hear his name come up.

The only thing I got out of this is that you don't want things to change much and you like boring football.

John Ramsdell’s resume reflects excellence in developing young QBs. His latest student is Philip Rivers, who has excelled by passing for more than 4,000 yards each of the last two seasons, including a career-best 4,254 yards in 2009. Only the second quarterback in franchise history to throw for more than 4,000 yards, Rivers was among an elite group of NFL QBs in ’09 that passed for more than 4,000 yards, 25-or-more touchdownss and a final season passer rating higher than 100.0. Ramsdell had similar success in St. Louis with Kurt Warner, a two-time NFL MVP and three-time Pro Bowler who led the Rams to two Super Bowls, including a win over Tennessee in Super Bowl XXXIV. Warner’s successor, Marc Bulger, also benefited from working with Ramsdell as he passed for a then career-high 3,964 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2004.

The only position coach to work with the Rams each of their first 11 seasons in St. Louis, Ramsdell helped the Rams lead the league in passing three straight years (1999-01). the Rams never ranked lower than fifth overall in passing offense.
