Honestly, trade Smith or the 1st round pick for additional ones

i've been sitting here since this afternoon thinking about things. i'm really starting to come around to this trading down thing.

honestly, do we NEED superstar players? do we NEED to take a chance on the #1 pick? tell me, what team has ever won anything by taking a chance. none.

and this is why i think we need to trade it for a ton of picks. fill our roster with 3rd-4th round guys, middle of the road talent; guys like Eric Norwood, Corey Irvin, Charles Godfrey. these are solid players who will keep us right in the thick of where i'm comfortable being: 8-8. honestly anything higher makes me uncomfortable, because it just doesn't fit the conservative profile that this team was built on.

That sounds like a damn good idea.... I mean look at the playoff teams this year and the competitiveness in the NFL!!! We just need average to below average players and we can make it to a superbowl....

And besides, QB is the least valuable position on a team with the new rules.

Or we can just stock up on players from other teams like we did with Clowney this year!!! 2012 Superbowl Baby!!!!

Why do people think we need more picks? The good thing about this season was that we found some players. First, we will get Wharton, Otah, and Williams back for the offense. We will get TDavis back on Defense. THat is 4 starters. We will re-sign our core (Kalil, Johnson, Williams, Davis, etc) We are losing Marshall and possibly Anderson, but Munnerlyn has played very well and We seem to find LBs under rocks. Look for Jason Williams to take Anderson's job. So, where are the needs on D? 2 DTs, and CB.

On Offense, We need a QB and RG. OL depth can be found in the lower rounds of the draft. Basically, we need to heal and add 5 players and OL depth.

We have money to spend. After re-signing our core, I think we will sign a DT in free agency and possibly a CB. I also think a veteran QB would be a good idea.

In the draft, we would need the first pick for QB, a DT, and OL depth. That is it. Why do we need more picks? You would trade away a franchise QB so you can upgrade a few positions? Not smart.

Smith needs to go to the slot on third downs. Armanti could learn a lot from him, focusing on Slot WR and nothing else. He will be good there. Gettis needs to move to #1 and Lafell to #2. Although he can play #1 right now, we need a true #1. Gettis could, but he has a ways to go.

We are young and inexperienced. Adding more youth and players is not smart because it forces you to cut people before they are ready.

It is what it is. Coaches will evaluate the tape and let you fans know what you were looking at.

Not hope do get a good deal. If Luck comes out we can get the other teams 1st and 2nd round pick for this year and next. Hopefully it will be to a team in that has a top 10 pick. Honestly Luck has had one good year. Call me skeptic but I need to see more. Grab the extra picks and grab AJ Green. Let Hurney wheel and deal and maybe we can get 2 first rounders this draft taking Mallet with the Second 1st round pick.

Ah! So we do get a good deal! It's just we have to hope it'll work out the way you want it to!

I want to see more too. Like how sure you are that we'll get Green after we pass on Luck. Maybe how sure you are that talent we need will be there when we're on the clock.

If Luck comes out, you don't trade the pick, you take him.

As far as trading Smith, unlikely that gets as much in return as people think it would.

can get a 3rd for Smitty.

if we are starting a rookie QB next season.......I don't want Smitty on the team. He would do more harm than good. He ain't trying to end his career waiting on a rookie to develop anyway.

I wouldn't expect to get much for Smitty at this point in his career. He's pretty banged up and has been around for 10 years now. We'd be lucky to get a 4th round pick for him. I think it's better to have him on hand to mentor the young WRs and kick returners. We missed that this year with our QBs, there was no vet QB who had 'been there' to be available to them when the defense was on the field.

I am leery of any number one pick absent a rookie pay scale, which is one of the owners demands in the new CBA. I'd rather trade it to address other needs and not have to pay a unnecessarily high cost in doing so. We have young QB on hand, let's get THEM developed.

Smitty ain't the guy for that.

we need the number 1 pick and smith should be a panther for life.......................if u dont think that find a new team

Great googlie mooglie. Smitty has worn out his welcome. His antics was fine when he was producing. But he has been doing great for over the past 2 years. Time to trade or cut him.
