armanti edwards!

Recommended Posts

Im getting negative vibes bruh..you should just clam down . I wasn't saying my opinion is better, im saying its dumb to call him a bust now when he's been on the field all of 10 minutes.

I understand your soooooo mad because we gave up the 33rd pick and i agree we stretched to far for edwards but you gotta give him time before you call him worthless.

Sorry for the outburst.

Reach is an understatement. 33rd pick in the 2011 draft is a pisser. But wasn't another recent 2nd round pick also dubbed a bust after his first season? I'm speaking of Dwayne Jarrett, of course.

The only thing I want to say about Armanti Edwards is...why in the hell didnt we pick him up with a 7th round draft pick last year. No one coveted this mediocre speed quarterback/wr project. Bad bad bad call Hurney, using a 2nd round 1st pick and 3 round later round pick was such a bad choice. I am so upset we didnt pick up John Skelton, this kid would be a upgrade over Clausen now.

you point is moot when talking about Edwards himself.. did you read my response?

and what I think you meant to say was a second and third round pick, the upside had better be massive.. (You left out the 3rd pick where he was actually picked)

regardless of where he was picked, it's who picked him that you should focus your attention on..

now if you want to talk about Hurney making that pick, go for it..

but even if he went in the 1st round, Armanti Edwards wasn't going to be an instant home run.. expect him to take 2-3 more years to be a be an impact player at the NFL level.. regardless of his draft position..

This is not your grandfathers NFL. THere arent projects anymore, you can either play or you cant. Edwards is the latter. Whats more concerning is, if you say he is a 2-3 year project then hes running out his rookie contract on the bench. Then Hurney is in a situation to resign him just to ensure hes not getting ride of a 'gem' only to find himself with a cap sucker.

These type of habitual decisions should have us discussing replacing him more than Fox. Fox is the media face of the Panthers so he takes the hit. Fox will get another job in the NFL, Hurney will not.

John Skelton sucks as much, if not more than Clausen.

If I'm not mistaken, Armanti had an 8.0 yards per carry average and the highest QB rating on the team this season. It wasn't his fault the awful Panthers kept doing vanilla Fox offense down 31-3 in the 4th quarter in the last game of a 2-14 season.

I typically like to stay out these types of discussions. anyone can look back on that pick and see that it was a huge waste, even if armanti becomes useful in the return game next season, you cant invest a 2nd rd pick in a return guy.

either way, he will take time to develop.

If Fox has proven anything over the last decade, its that he cannot develop a WR or QB. So why do we expect any less from Armanti?

Coaching has everything to do with the development of potential. Ever heard of a QB convert Julian Edleman? he did a pretty good job filling in for Welker when he was hurt. But, he has an excellent QB and coaching staff to get him ready. No way that guy is more athletic or capable than Armanti.

I started writing an entirely too long post.. and realized all I needed to say was, you're f**king crazy if you think projects don't exist in the NFL.. how else do you think the Pats and Steelers keep such high turnover rates and still find players?

--------------------

you know what.. you may be passionate as hell, but a lot of people who spout off insane poo are usually those who just watch the game and think if their team isn't getting a 1st down every 3 downs and scoring on every drive the coach sucks or the QB sucks..

one person told me The Golden Calf of Bristol would be better than Rothlisberger because Ben holds onto the ball too long.. I mean, WTF?! dead serious when they said it..

There really isn't anything much different from that statement than saying "projects don't exist anymore, you either play or you don't"..

the insanity that runs amok in these forums is astonishing..

Armanti wasn't going undrafted and wasn't going to be around for too much longer. I'm an App grad so I'm biased, but he was scouted heavily by several teams. As a Panther's fan, I wanted him but I disliked trading a 2nd for him. Yes, he cost just a 2nd. Not sure some of you know how transactions work saying that he cost a 2nd and 3rd. But no use whining about him anymore. He's on the team and has showed some promise in what extremely limited play time he got.

I guess I'm saying.. we spent a 2nd to draft him in the 3rd.. we could have spent a 2nd to draft someone else better in the 3rd..

anyhow, the kid will take a couple years to grow into a WR.. everyone prepare to wait..

    • Some of you who are not sold on Canales are insane. His main purpose was to turn around Bryce Young’s career and he did that. Of all of the teams in the top 10 of the NFL draft, we were the team that was consistently showing the most fight week in and week out. Our players never quit on the season. The offense which he is responsible for took a huge step forward compared to last year, despite the lack of skill talent  that we have. It was our defense that was a mess. That’s one of my critiques on Canales. He should’ve gotten rid of Evero and hired his own DC that shares the same vision. But as a whole, I can’t see how people are not pleased with what Canales did with this team. I’d give him an 9/10
    • One of the first thoughts after the game yesterday was that JT was going to jump all over it. He's been more favorable about BY from the beginning, and so yesterday must've felt like Christmas.
    • Maybe, but they were always going to be an impossible team to accurately mocked right now. They have an absurd amount of cap room, what they need right now will not be what they need come draft day.  They can make multiple big splash signings and even make trades for players who need new contracts and their teams don't want to give it to them. OT and WR might be their two biggest needs right now, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they could go into the draft needing neither of them.  I think a LT will be their top FA priority, also think they're going to make a big offer to Higgins, and I could see them being a team in the running to trade for someone like DK Metcalf as they need a WR like him and they have the cap space to give him a big new contract.
