I dont get why Fox is 'high on everyones coaching list'

Yep, things have dried up for Fox in Charlotte. He was good for us, but it's time for a change. Fox was one of the longest tenured coaches in the NFL. 9 years with one team is a lifetime in the NFL. We've had more disappointing years with John Fox as head coach than we have had successful years though. 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2008 are the only years you can look at as positives during Fox's 9 years as head coach. Average indeed. He's a great guy and I love what he did for us, just like Delhomme. But it has come to an end. He's obviously going downhill as a coach - atleast with us. 4 of the last 5 seasons we've missed the playoffs. More of that is to blame on Fox than Richardson. Fox had playoff teams to work with in 2006, 2007, and 2009.

If we kept him on board for another season or two maybe Fox would guide us to the playoffs again, but he would also grant us more underachieving and losing seasons. I love the fact that he puts defense first, but it's time for a new philosophy. You can't win in the modern game without a really solid passing game. I don't care how good your run game is... you just can't do it. We need a young and enthusiastic coach to come in here and kick some ass and get this organization playing with some heart and passion again just like it did when Fox was first hired. We need to overachieve, not underachieve.

But it's Fox's own fault that he's getting canned. Fox has had more than enough talent and freedom as a coach to get this team to the playoffs every single season from 2003-2009 if he coached right. This is the only season where it's actually not all his fault. But it's too late for Fox. He never evolved as a coach.

Is Mcnabb still an elite QB? He is getting older, and he has been injured a lot.

he at least started the season looking like one. And before he was benched he looked pretty elite also. The redskins have a lot of problems, but I don't think lack of QBs on the roster is one of them.

how's he doing with an elite QB this year?

just b/c a coach was good....doesn't mean he remains that way the entire time he chooses to coach. Also, Reid got McNabb in his prime so he probably is back to where he was w/ a Plummer caliber QB. Jake Delhomme was the same caliber QB over the course of his career.....it happens.

Bottom line is plenty of coaches have won back to back seasons w/o a Tom Brady at QB. If you can't pull that off in a decade.....you simply aren't a very good coach.

fox is slightly over-rated by the media. he is an adequate coach, not an elite one, or a good one. elite coaches have their teams in the playoffs every year and good coaches can put back to back winning seasons together. good coaches can game plan well on a consistent basis instead of running the ball every play when the other team knows it, and good coaches can make half time adjustments.

fox has done none of this in his time here in carolina. he hasn't won a playoff game in 5 years and only been to the playoffs once in that time frame. I wouldn't be jumping on that coach all too quickly. coaches have been fired for a lot less than that.

he was always just good enough to not get fired, which is why he isn't going to be, we are just letting his contract expire so he can walk away. that in itself will make fox out to be a better coach than he is, because he didn't suck enough to get fired and the FO still had faith in him to coach a winning team.

if you ask me, he peaked the year we were beat by seattle in the playoffs and it's been all downhill from there. we've had talented teams that he just hasn't been able to utilize and it is high time that we got some new blood in here with new ideas and new ways of doing things. hopefully the players like the new guy as much as they did fox.

players would kill their first born children for him. He's had more success than many other current coaches in the league. What more do you need?

Consecutive winning seasons would be nice.

Not being consistently outcoached on the big stage, another.

I wish Fox well. Good man. Average NFL coach. Somewhere, lost his drive and kept too much blind faith in a QB with a bad arm.

Fox is a decent coach. Whether or not he gets another HC job depends on if there is a GM and owner who are looking for a coach with Fox's style. Fox fits the coaching mold perfectly... his players love him, he is defensive minded and he is professional.

As mentioned before his resume, record and style are not that different from Coughlin's who took a B- run in Jacksonville and parlayed that into an amazing record and superbowl win with the giants. Teams pay attention to these things.

It's all timing though. HC jobs are hard to come by to say the least

This was Fox's year to pull off his best coaching season. I was disappointed.

yep, even if he had a losing record...THIS was the year he really could show the world what kind of a coach he was. He could have done some really good coaching and lose......

Fox just lost and a lot of it has to do w/ coaching. Give Belichick this exact same roster and the season would play out differently. Belichick can gameplan and use talent. That is coaching. Belichick doesn't go into every season trying to do one thing regardless of the hand he has. That is the difference between very good HCs and John Fox.

So your gonna say Jake plummer who had went over 200 passes without an int at one point... Was below average qb play

But Jake Delhomme was an above average QB play?

COme on Man

I said, first, Fox hasn't had below average QB play his entire tenure. Jake Plummer wasn't a very good QB. Shanny won consistantly w/o great QB play. That is the point.

In Fox tenure (a defensive coach), he has had what I consider 3 great defensive players. 2 of those 3 wanted off his team........the 3rd player is still here but didn't put in the same amount of time as the others before they opted to leave. Now we can bash and pin it all on the players.....as that is what we do when players want out. Fact remains his best talent after a number of seasons.....we saw their attitude change and them want to play for someone else.

I think Fox is a player friendly coach. It means guys like Godfrey like it. Not so sure every player LOVES him. I think some want more than a friendly guy who will clap for you while you are out there doing the same old stuff.

not really, as soon as elway left the broncos sucked. they went to the playoffs 4 times from 99-08.

those are john fox kinda numbers right there. he did however make the playoffs three years in a row from 03-05, something foxy never did. so i would say that his time post elway was slightly better than fox's tenure at carolina due to the back to back to back playoff seasons.
