Analysis

Disclaimer: It was a staff Christmas party this night so I couldn't watch the game so analysis is purely based off the statistical data.

Jimmy Clausen

This was always going to be a very stern test for Jimmy, as countless QBs who were playing at a much higher standard have fallen short against Dick LeBeau's play calling. Add in that Jimmy has struggled with blitz pick ups against complex schemes are this was always going to be a long day for the rookie signal caller. This was confirmed as in 15 drop backs being blitzed Jimmy was felled 4 times.

There were not too many positives from his performance, other than throwing to the left side of the field, which continues to be his strongest area to throw to by some distance.

Negatives are plentiful. The most concerning is that his completion percentage when having time was back to a poor level and once again he throw an interception without any pressure.

LaFell & Gettis

With the struggles of Clausen in this game it would always be difficult for these two to make much difference. One thing that does stand out to me is the places Gettis is lined up in comparison to LaFell, as I would have assumed they positions would be opposite due to LaFell's ability in run blocking.

Gettis could have done a bit more to prevent the interception on the under thrown deep pass, but that is nit picking.

Greg Hardy

Another promising game from Hardy has cemented him as the stand out of our 2010 rookie class. Two total pressures and a defensive stop in the run game did not indicate his overall impact. He really should be starting opposite Johnson full time, however Brayton had his biggest 'impact' day in a while posting 4 hurries and 2 stops in 61 snaps. Regardless Hardy appears to have gotten over the 'rookie wall' he hit in week 13, jumping back up to the level he had been playing earlier in the season where he was impressive in both the run and passing game.

Andre Neblett

Neblett is given his first start for us and produces his best performance of the season. Primarily the NT in our defensive schemes he was the only one who dealt with the Steelers offensive line in the run game, able to hold the point and shed his blockers. A hurry and a further 2 defensive stops (every tackle he has made this year has been a defensive stop) just is adding to a promising indication on his possible future contributions. Whilst I doubt he is an elite calibre DT in the making, he could become our next Jordan Carstens, giving us 2 DTs on the roster worth keeping.

Robert McClain

After his best game of the season against the Cardinals, McClain is exposed in the passing game giving up each of the targets thrown at him and both for decent YAC. So far it would seem as if we still need our top three CBs on the team here next year unless we upgrade. McClain just is not ready yet.

Eric Norwood

9 snaps and a hurry, giving him 3 pressures in 35 snaps. A decent start and considering that Brayton only has 12 on the season. He has shown a nose for the pass rush, so hopefully this is a sign of things to come for next season.

Jordan Pugh

Not much to go on after his games against New Orleans and Chicago.
