How will the Gator Bowl effect Harbaugh/UM/Carolina?

Just like with a draft pick he's taking a risk no matter what he decides to do.

He could go to Michigan and (theoretically) immediately win...somehow - he could also come to Carolina and be in a black pit of losing despair for years.

I do think you're right in that his odds are better in Carolina though - assuming the "wtf college coaches can't coach in the NFL" bug doesn't bite him.

He has a better NFL pedigree than guys like Saban or Petrino. And even with those guys, they had NO QBs. Saban had Cleo Lemon, Harrington, and Gus Ferotte in Miami and Petrino had an insurance salesmen in Atlanta.

I know there are a few coaches happy to stay in college football their whole career but surely the majority of coaches dream of coaching in the NFL. Being an NFL coach is one of the most exclusive clubs in the world. Plus hasn't Harbaugh had interviews with NFL teams before? Meaning thats where he wants to be.

honestly I have to agree with Saint J here if Harbaugh's goals are the NFL. I think if he wants to coach in the NFL any time soon, his best chance is to leave this year, followed by staying at Stanford and possibly getting a job offer next year if nothing declines. Michigan prolongs his chance to enter the NFL by at least 3 seasons, I think, because I don't see him going there, getting the team rebuilt and winning in 1 year and bolting.

Look at it this way. If he stays at Stanford , and that program goes south, he gets no other head coaching offers. If he goes to Michigan and sucks, he doesnt get another NFL offer in all likely hood. However, if he goes to the NFL and blows it, he can always return to the college game. You strike while the iron is hot, and take the NFL job, Michigan will still be there later if he cant make it in the pros.

Rich Rod was probably going to be fired anyway...the trouncing that Michigan took will only make that decision easier for those in charge.

Harbaugh is 50/50 at Michigan next year, IMO

I think JR will open his checkbook for Harbaugh though, making it more likely that he comes here

After watching Mississippi State straight up destroy Michigan in every facet of the game how attractive does that job look? 3-5 in a weak conference, low level of talent defensively, unreasonable boosters, etc.. 49ers can offer a job close to home but that is pretty much it. They have a mess of a front office, a horrible QB situation, bad ownership, and so forth. Harbaugh could go to Carolina, get paid, coach up his big time QB from Stanford, and he would inherit a team that has young talent all over the roster. If I'm Harbaugh it's a no brainer to sign with the Panthers.

It makes me laugh how Luck and Harbaugh are both messiahs. They've had a good college season, but good god people are talking about them like they're Hall of Famers.

NFC South is the hardest division in the league, from top to bottom. A few tweaks and Carolina is a contender again. Why wouldn't a coach want to come here and prove how good he is or isn't. Yeah, he could go easy and go to SF and into the shittiest division, but does that really prove anything?

Of course competing with Carroll again is probably tempting....

I see what you're saying but people love teams with history if he could revive the san francisco 49ers ESPN and the entire san fran area would love him..and since its in a weak division he could win fast..but if we make him a offer I dont think he will turn us down because he can have his college QB in luck here.
