I agree somewhat with your last statement, but I question the points you made in the second paragraph:

1) No mention that the D line coach left because we weren't very effective in his scheme.

Question: Are you referring to Trgo's scheme or are you specifically referring to Sunseri? Because if it's the later, the DL coach is just a position coach and would follow the scheme laid out by the DC, if that's what you meant.

2) Or that the secondary coach left because in the last 2 jobs his DBs seriously underperformed.

Until the Giants' game, our secondary hadn't been flagged for PI. Could it have been the bend-don't-break scheme with it's overuse of soft zone coverage that was the problem? Again, as a DB coach, Lewis' influence over the entire defensive scheme would've been limited. I'm not sure his past two jobs played a role in how things turned out in Carolina, and it's beem reported that he took a similar role in Seattel to be closer to family (his brother is a personnel guy with the Seahawks).

3) Or that Trgo didn't have the confidence of the coach or management for the past 2 years which is why he wasn't automatically extended.

Again, I'm not sure I totally agree with this statement, as it was reported that the Panthers were prepared to offer him a two-year extension that Trgo planned to sign until his "change of heart". All indications (at least publicly) were that the organization wanted him back, but Trgo made the call to move on. It could be argued that Fox's increased involvement in the defensive meetings was evidence of the HC lacking confidence in the playcalling, though.

I do agree that while it may be true that Fox is stubborn (as most of us have suspected), that the article doesn't give us the full picture, but I'm sure there's a measure of truth to why our defense collapsed toward the end of season and why most of our defensive staff and our best defensive player are no longer in our future plans. JMO

People who think that a position coach is a puppet or doesn't have any authority misunderstand their role. The coordinator is involved with the big picture but the position coach works with each of the guys to improve their technique, work on film, and develop them individually. Most of the time position coaches can also implement things like stunt formations, how linemen prepare and attack certain opponents, developing their moves, etc. The coordinator dictates the big picture but the line battle is won with individual execution which is the positions coach responsibility.

So to assume that it is Trgo's line and he is unable to influence things alot is naive.

2. Anyone who has read my comments know I was a big Lewis supporter when he came here due to his background as an aggressive DB as a player and his background as the coordinator for Piitsburgh. But he was fired by the Giants because his zone schemes didn't work and the passive zone gave up tons of yards.

I hoped he would learn from that and go back to a more man pressure scheme. But he didn't. I don't know if it was choice or being forced to run a scheme he didn't beleive in but the players this year didn't get the job done. As you suggest we didn't have many pass interference calls because we were rarely in a position to make a play on the ball. It won't be said but I expect he left before he was canned. as soon as Trgo left, he was hours behind him. If he wanted to go to Seattle to be with his family then why did he lobby so hard for the Green Bay job??

3.As for Trgo having the coach's trust. he did in 2005 and 2006 but not since then. Why? Results. They haven't been there for the past 2 years.

Up to now anything peppers says is posturing for money and to get other teams to big for him. When it is all said and done we will likely know what he really thinks. In the end it may be a blessing in disguise as we need to rely on asuperior scheme instead of a remarkable athlete to get pressure on the quarterback. With great schemes you can plug in good players. With a great athelte and poor scheme you are only as godd as they are barring injury or other circumstances.

Of course Fox meddles. It is his team and he is boss and totally responsible for the outcome. But the reality is Fox deosn't need to fix something that isn't broken. And to assume that the downward performance by the defense is Fox's fault makes no sense. he didn't get involved until problems surfaced and he didn't interfere in 2006 and 2005 when things went well.

Anyone who couldn't see that we had problems the past 2 years doesn't know much about our team. Even though our defense was decent the first half, we had several games like San Diego, Tampa, and Minnesota where the defense let us down in the second half this year. We couldn'tshut teams down when we needed to. And we struggled to get off the field all of last year.

Frankly I would rather know that Fox was actively trying to fix things than ignoring them as they got worse. It would have been irresponsible for him to do otherwise.

I can agree with that. One thing though: it has been said that Fox began to get more actively involved with the defense the second half of last season. Now I don't know if this is true, but I will say that if this is an indication of Fox's fixes, then we'll be in for another roller coaster ride on defense.

Well, Defensive coordinators don't just want to become defensive line coaches for another team for no reason, unless they hate to have more money.

or they admit to being burned out and overworked. Trgovac himself said most everything here was untrue before this particular article even came out. There's no doubt in my mind that "the way we hear it" = repeating someone else's rumors, so I have no idea why anyone would think this is anything more than what Yas said a week ago.
