The 10 Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

1. Is it to early to call Everette Brown a bust? I saw 1, maybe 2 good plays from him this season. I've seen him get pressure every now and then but his production is sub-par and each game I forget he exists.

2. IF Smitty goes, who steps up and plays a bigger role? I'm certain we would have to get a veteran WR. Gettis/LaFell/Edwards isn't enough, particularly if we get Luck.

3. What ever happened to Eric Norwood? Did he drop off the face of the earth or was he placed on IR? (I can't remember).

4. Greg Hardy, I like the kid. Is he worthy of replacing Brayton?

5. If Skipper goes we more than likely lose D-Will (unless Franchise tag). D-Will stated he wants to play in Carolina, but only if Skipper stays (he doesn't want to play for anyone else).

6. How good do you think Pugh is on defense? If Marshal goes, does Godfrey move to CB and Pugh to Safety?

7. Is Captain Munnerlyn a solution at CB for next season? or is question #6 more logical? or is there another solution all together?

8. Who are the starting LB's next season? I say Davis, Beason, Anderson. With Connor as a reserve.

9. It's Day 3 of the draft. Who do you grab?

10. Who is expendable next season?

Some things are random or just worn out. But I was bored and put this together for the amusement of myself and whoever else is online at midnight.

1. Is it to early to call Everette Brown a bust? I saw 1, maybe 2 good plays from him this season. I've seen him get pressure every now and then but his production is sub-par and each game I forget he exists. Yes. He actually improved a lot this year and ended up going to IR. He's progressing and will be a good player for us.

2. IF Smitty goes, who steps up and plays a bigger role? I'm certain we would have to get a veteran WR. Gettis/LaFell/Edwards isn't enough, particularly if we get Luck. Gettis is going to be a weapon, but we'll need a veteran is Smitty leaves. Who's got Ricky Proehl's number?

3. What ever happened to Eric Norwood? Did he drop off the face of the earth or was he placed on IR? (I can't remember). Played a lot of ST's and saw some limited time as a pass rusher. Didn't show a lot but didn't get too many opportunities. Way too early to pass judgment on the guy.

4. Greg Hardy, I like the kid. Is he worthy of replacing Brayton? If he learns how to play the run, yes.

5. If Skipper goes we more than likely lose D-Will (unless Franchise tag). D-Will stated he wants to play in Carolina, but only if Skipper stays (he doesn't want to play for anyone else). D-Will can't just follow Skip wherever he goes. And who knows, the new HC might re-hire Skip. I think D-Will stays.

6. How good do you think Pugh is on defense? If Marshal goes, does Godfrey move to CB and Pugh to Safety? Pugh was average this year. There's nothing to suggest that Godfrey would be a good CB in the NFL and, despite what people on this board say, he has been improving. He's a legit starting safety.

7. Is Captain Munnerlyn a solution at CB for next season? or is question #6 more logical? or is there another solution all together? I like Captain a lot and I think he can handle being a full time starter. However, if Marshall leaves and Captain moves to the #2 Corner spot we need to find a good nickelback in FA. McClain sucks.

8. Who are the starting LB's next season? I say Davis, Beason, Anderson. With Connor as a reserve. Yep. Davis, Beason and Anderson are definitely the best three backers on the team.

9. It's Day 3 of the draft. Who do you grab? BPA. BPA. BPA.

10. Who is expendable next season? All those random LB's we picked up throughout the year.

Too early. I think we all knew he'd be mostly a situational pass rusher but if we continue to develop him he could be a good player. Remember that he came out as a junior.

2. IF Smitty goes, who steps up and plays a bigger role? I'm certain we would have to get a veteran WR. Gettis/LaFell/Edwards isn't enough, particularly if we get Luck.

I like what I see out of Gettis. He has all the tools and I think he could be an impact WR for us. IMO we need to get a legit QB before we judge anything else on the offensive side of the ball. Its just too hard to say whether or not a player is good when he isn't being fully utilized due to the ineptitude of the QB.

3. What ever happened to Eric Norwood? Did he drop off the face of the earth or was he placed on IR? (I can't remember).

IDk..

4. Greg Hardy, I like the kid. Is he worthy of replacing Brayton?

Made a positive impact as a rookie. Coach him up and I think he turns into a good player for us.

5. If Skipper goes we more than likely lose D-Will (unless Franchise tag). D-Will stated he wants to play in Carolina, but only if Skipper stays (he doesn't want to play for anyone else).

Is this a question??

I think DWill is gone no matter what. IDT we offer him a contract worth the amount that he wants when we have Goodson and Stewart.

6. How good do you think Pugh is on defense? If Marshal goes, does Godfrey move to CB and Pugh to Safety?

I'm hoping Marshall doesn't go. He isn't GREAT but he is a good CB for us.

7. Is Captain Munnerlyn a solution at CB for next season? or is question #6 more logical? or is there another solution all together?

I think Munnerlyn is a career Nickel corner. Corner is a position we are going to have to address through FA or the draft if we lose Gamble or Marshall.

8. Who are the starting LB's next season? I say Davis, Beason, Anderson. With Connor as a reserve.

I'm hoping its Noorwood, Beason, Anderson. We need to move Beason back to the middle.

9. It's Day 3 of the draft. Who do you grab?

OT Jake Vermiglio - Didn't allow a sack in 500 snaps at NCSU. Homer pick...

10. Who is expendable next season?

We are probably going to be 2-14...Is there such a thing as an expendable player in this situation.

Some things are random or just worn out. But I was bored and put this together for the amusement of myself and whoever else is online at midnight.

The rookies were put in a terrible position but I like all of their upside...other than the obvious.

Good set of questions because...they get at some of the more substantial decisions this franchise is going to have to make without beating the Clausen/Luck issue into the ground.

#2 What if Smitty leaves?

I would not like to see Smitty leave, but I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to. THe QB situation here is murky and he's got a little bit left in the tank.

He's kinda at the same stage as Ladanian Tomlinson. The guy is still obviously extremely talented; he may have lost a step, but it turns out that's still good enough in the right system. If Smitty played in the right system, he would still be dangerous.

Who knows what kind of system we are going to have and what level of talent will be around him? I don't think the Panthers would be competitive without Smitty and another veteran. Gettis is not a #1 reciever. laFell is not a #2. Armanti...well you get it...

Maybe Smitty would be good in a trade for equal value, but who could replace him as a leader (for better or worse) and a fan favorite? We would be losing more than just the on-field production. To me it SUCKED when Jake was let go (and Moose and Hoover) and it would SUCK to lose Smitty just as much, even if all were sound business decisions.

But, if the strategy is to go younger, and the right team offered good value, I could see Smitty going for a trade. It would be a HUGE setback for our passing game, though, I think.

  1. Brown's not a bust. He's already shown that he can contribute in certain situations, and he's continued to improve since drafted. If you think he's a bust, you've been spoiled by Hurney's success with first round picks. And I'll also point out that Davis looked less effective his first two years here.

  2. Smitty will likely remain a Panther. If he goes, I don't know who can replace his 500 yard effort, but I imagine we'll find someone.

  3. Eric Norwood is just like every other fourth round pick that came in loaded with potential and was compared to all-pros. He's a special teams player hoping to improve enough to get into the "who should start" conversation. See Anderson, James.

  4. Greg Hardy is the rare late round pick that is an actual find. He isn't going to replace Brayton until Brayton leaves, but once that happens I can't imagine a drop-off in production. If he makes the improvement most second year players do, it will be hard to keep him on the bench.

  5. Skipper will get interviews by the next staff and will probably be back. Look at Williamson--do you think that a condition of Seiffert's and Fox's employment was that they keep him on? The new coach will bring his own guys in at the key positions, and will probably hold on to the better position coaches to help with the transition. I expect Brian Baker will be back too, unless he becomes a DC somewhere.

  6. Pugh is decent, and will continue to provide quality minutes in a reserve role for the next several years (see Wesley, Dante). Godfrey will remain at Safety regardless of what happens with Marshall.

  7. Captain Munnerlyn is a good Corner. He can start or play the nickel. He runs well in the slot, but he can be a liability against taller WRs and TEs. I look for us to re-sign Marshall or find another good Corner in FA.

  8. Davis, Beason, and Anderson will probably start, especially if the Panthers remain in a cover-2 system. If they run a different defensive set, I can see Connor in the starting line-up as a MLB with Beason on the strong side. A lot depends on what the next coaches emphasize at that position (speed, strength, cover skills, run stuffing, etc...).

  9. BPA, of course. Although I might look at a good kicker too.

  10. Everyone is expendable.

A bust? Not entirely, but it is leaning that way. Hard to tell without a complete, competent Dline. He needs another year maybe two to know for sure. He is still very young.

2. IF Smitty goes, who steps up and plays a bigger role? I'm certain we would have to get a veteran WR. Gettis/LaFell/Edwards isn't enough, particularly if we get Luck.

I would like to see the new coach use Goodson in the slot but who knows. We migth end up getting AJ Greene, but there is a strong need for a cheap, slightly above average veteran to help out. Remember that this year has made men of boys so having Gettis as a alternate #1 wouldn't be so bad.

3. What ever happened to Eric Norwood? Did he drop off the face of the earth or was he placed on IR? (I can't remember).

Hard to get reps at one of our few stacked positions. We will see more of him I am sure of it.

4. Greg Hardy, I like the kid. Is he worthy of replacing Brayton?

You bet your ass he is. He needs some coaching though, it's obvious he has a attitude/temper. He talks more poo than any rookie on the team lol. Still, if he can use that emotion to his advantage, Brayton who?

5. If Skipper goes we more than likely lose D-Will (unless Franchise tag). D-Will stated he wants to play in Carolina, but only if Skipper stays (he doesn't want to play for anyone else).

He will be tagged.

6. How good do you think Pugh is on defense? If Marshal goes, does Godfrey move to CB and Pugh to Safety?

Pugh is doing alright, still needs time. I wouldn't give him full time just yet.

7. Is Captain Munnerlyn a solution at CB for next season? or is question #6 more logical? or is there another solution all together?

Captain can hold his own.

8. Who are the starting LB's next season? I say Davis, Beason, Anderson. With Connor as a reserve.

They will probably end up like that but no way to know until everyone is brought back after the offseason. Those who are disciplined and eat healthy, stay in shape, sharpen football knowledge etf. usually end up playing.

9. It's Day 3 of the draft. Who do you grab?

Oline or BPA.

10. Who is expendable next season?

LBs, Moore, Some secondary

1) To me he's just an ok player, would rather see Brown as a backup.

2) I don't see Smith leaving, what this team really needs is a top notch tightend.

3) Roll player, roster spot

4) Yes, Hardy needs to add muscle in the offseason. solid player down the road.

5) Let him walk, you DO NOT TAG a runningback in todays NFL. Its a QB's league.

6) With todays NFL you need as many good DBs as possible. The nickel an dime defenses are the way of the future so guys like Pugh and Munnerlyn are a must. Keep Pugh and Martin at satety.

7) Panthers need to resign Marshall, drop Gamble and bring in a vet like C Bailey. As stated above, Munnerlyn will be just as important as a nickelback.

8) Yes, yes and yes. IF, if its a 4-3 system

9) best players for the new system, hell it could be a 3-4 for all we know.

10) In a 2 - 14 season?.....everyone.

Why would you keep Marshall but drop Gamble when Gamble is better and still under contract?

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
