Bringing in Aso

I would love for us to get this guy but who would we have to trade to get him? Trading Jimmy and some picks would be awesome but very unlikely. Davis has been known to make horrible trades but I can't see him being that dumb. Nothing wrong with dreaming though.

All of this is speculation by fans anyway, I only hope the FO would be thinking this way concerning strengthening the defense. Asomugha's contract only has one more year on it, and it could be likely he will not be returning to the Raiders after it is up. If they get a new head coach, Aso will more than likely want to leave. If he's going to learn a new defensive scheme, he might as well go to a contender while he's at it.

I think the first one who gives the Raiders a tantalizing deal for him will be the winner of obtaining him. Clausen (2nd round pick), Godfrey (3rd round pick), next year's 1st, and maybe another pick next year is a flashy enough deal for Al Davis to consider. I'm willing to part with both Clausen and Godfrey. We are essentially giving the Raiders next year's first and another pick for Asomugha. Giving them Clausen and Godfrey would free up cap space to sign him long term and possibly be able to keep Marshall as well. For those of you who want a DT, we can still get a DT in FA no problem, as well as a WR.

Trade all that for a guy who has one year left on his contract and you don't know he will want to sign with you? Unless you work out a long term deal with him first, that makes no sense.

We are going 2-14 or 3-13 this year. Why would he consider us a contender?

Completely out of context to the rest of this post because I agree that trading for Aso is a horrid idea...but I can't resist a dig at the Raiders no matter how bad we were this year...

....when you play for the Raiders you probably view the local PeeWee team as a contender don't you?

I realize having a good DT is crucial, but let's realize something here. We haven't had a great DT since Jenkins left. (And really since the 2005-2006 season when Jenkins was fully committed to being a Panther) We can get a DT to eat up space and get Aso. I don't buy that his skills will decline in a couple of years. Look at Champ who's still playing at a high level, 11 year vet. Charles Woodson, probowl player year in year out, 12 year vet. Asomugha is only a seven year guy and is the top corner in the league.

Going back to our other needs, I doubt we get a big name DT unless we trade for one or don't draft Luck. Again if we draft Luck, we most likely are not going to get a big name WR either. The Chargers are now thinking about working out a deal with Vincent Jackson. So ultimately, even if we landed Nnamdi, we can still get other needs met as well. We have good safety in Martin to fill in the gap made by Godfrey.

Just visualize having 21# on the field for us. Having the QB thinking he only has one side of the field to work with, and that side involves throwing around a healthy Chris Gamble. Imagine Marshall once again being free to roam around the line of scrimmage, either to cover the slot guy or blitz for a quick sack. Asomugha single handly makes our defense the best in the league. That is exactly what we need to be if we want to compete against Atl, NO, and TB. All three of these teams have probowl caliber QBs with good receivers.

Let's see...

A:

CB: Aso

SS: Unknown

FS: Martin

CB: Gamble

DE: Johnson

DT: Crap

DT: Crap Stop Gap player

DE: Hardy

Potential loss of first round pick and future selections

or...

B:

CB: Bailey

SS: Godfrey

FS: Martin

CB: Gamble

DE: Johnson

DT: Brandon Mebane/or possible R. Seymour

DT: Gabe Watson, early draft selection

DE: Greg Hardy

Keep picks and sign 2-3 players that could be had for the price of one 29 yr old Aso.

I go with B personally. Not trying to bash you, Aso is great but in this case the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

From what I've heard and continiuning to hear, Carolina has alot of money to spend for this upcoming season. You don't think we can get Aso and land Mebane and those other guys? If we don't have any money to spend, then all bets are off on a big FA period.

Well if we only had the luxury to spend on new FA's then yea it might be possible. But keep in mind we have our own guys we have to worry about resigning. Such as, Kalil, Thomas Davis, James Anderson, Deangelo Williams, and Charles Johnson. We also have to consider a possible extension for Beason. We also need to figure out just what we want to do with Dan Conner.

Show me the Money !!!! Man I hope we are able to bring in some solid talented veterans for both offense and defense. I would like to get a O-lineman who does not have a history of being injured or who could play left tackle and not have a false start problem. I think spending a little bit of money of an effective possession receiver who is SMART and is a leader on the football field and in the locker room. Money sounds great. Hope we use it wisely

That is alot to take in right there. Kalil, Johnson, and Williams will probably want quality money, but I'm confident we will still have enough to spend afterward. Going with your B scenario earlier, getting Champ Bailey would cost as much money as it would bringing in Nnamdi. (If we have to place the highest bid for him against other teams) Yet if we traded Godfrey and Clausen, that will free up cap space to sign Aso and other guys as well. (Also making it more likely to keep Marshall, we will pay him the money we would have payed Godfrey) At best we will lose a draft pick next year with a trade for Aso.

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
