A report this week from Lookout Mobile Security said the new Trojan affecting Android devices has been dubbed "Geinimi" and "can compromise a significant amount of personal data on a user?s phone and send it to remote servers."

The firm called the virus "the most sophisticated Android malware we've seen to date."

Iphone is a great choice, if you want someone else to be in complete control of your phone, and what goes on it. You can sacrifice freedom of choice for security. If you want to make those decisions for yourself, or just want decent coverage, so you can make a phone call, then you have the trade off of possible viruses.

Huge reason to go with Apple in phones and computers. This crap rarely happens.

True, but its not because Apple is better at security. The reason it rarely happens is because Apple is such a small player in the PC world, especially in the corporate world. You don't see apple servers or desktops in the large corporations. But with IPhone/Ipad/Ipod becoming so popular and Iphone especially being used by corporations, we could start seeing more viruses that target those devices.

McAfee

Historically, the Mac OS platform has remained relatively unscathed by malicious attackers, but McAfee Labs warns that Mac-targeted malware will continue to increase in sophistication in 2011. The popularity of iPads and iPhones in business environments, combined with the lack of user understanding of proper security for these devices, will increase the risk for data and identity exposure, and will make Apple botnets and Trojans a common occurrence.

Laugh all you want, but name the last iphone virus....

<crickets>

There was one in 2008 and another one that hit late in 2009...

then one hit around July of this year... It was a self replicating virus....

The one in 2009 was worm trojan that took complete control of the phone's functions...so it happens and there is a pretty bad one each year, which is why most IT people will tell you to take some major steps and protect your IPhone from viruses
