Per beat writer Matt Maiocco: Baalke's interview lasted nine months

If York promotes Baalke to the position of general manager, it is bound to be met with a lot of skepticism. But there is a firm belief among NFL insiders -- and some folks at Stanford -- that Baalke will be able to deliver Jim Harbaugh to be the 49ers' head coach.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported Baalke was in Florida to seek advice from Bill Parcells. Baalke worked for Parcells while with the New York Jets. Harbaugh and his Stanford team will play Monday in the Orange Bowl.

If Baalke is named general manager Sunday or Monday, he can get to work immediately after the Orange Bowl to lure Harbaugh to the 49ers. King also reported that Jon Gruden is out of the picture as a 49ers coaching candidate.

York and the 49ers could move quickly to put together the key pieces of the organization at the beginning of what promises to be a tumultuous offseason because of the league's labor uncertain labor situation.

ya thats alarming but gantt responded to a tweet asking him if he was in vegas putting money on it he said Harbaugh will get the chance to say no to us.

Saw that. People misunderstood, thinking he meant that harbaugh wouldn't want the job.

No idea how it's going to play out, but after the Orange Bowl, I expect people to be on the edge of their seats till something's known.

(and then if that gets resolved quickly, right back on edge till the 15th)

If Harbaugh ends up with the 49ers, what are the chances he gets a trade with Carolina for the number one pick? I've been on the niners board, and they've been offering some pretty lame trade offers for a guy of Luck's potential. If the FO is stupid enough to trade Luck for anything less than a boat load of picks for the next two possibly three years and two established players (star and a good player), I don't know what I would do.

I wouldn't take anything less than a ridiculous offer.

What the team might take? Hopefully not anything less than a ridiculous offer, but who knows :sosp:

i want the 49ers to make it very tough for harbaugh to got back to stanford....maybe it will wipe away and doubt luck has about staying in college....and as for the 49ers trying to trade up it cost the giants in 04 a draft pick swap of course and a first and a 3rd.....thats a killer asking price
