What will Armanti Edwards be doing next season?

Next year just about every offensive player that isn't a running back is going to look loads better than they do this year. That includes the line and Jimmy Clausen (although he may have to look better with a clipboard in his hand).

Edwards will probably get a lot of looks early as a slot receiver and punt returner, any incoming coach will probably commit to that in the interview process. If he shows signs of being a player, at this time next year he'll be a fixture. If he doesn't, then he may not even be on the team. Based on his draft position, he's all but guaranteed a chance. So where he ends up is up to him.

If ANY coach has to commit to giving AE lots of looks (or JC lots of looks as other's have suggested) then that coach better have some insane clause in his contract saying if he's fired he gets paid 3 times his contract value as protection.

No GM is going to handcuff their coaching search but putting those limitations on the candidate.

You seriously think that telling the coach to give a project a chance to show what he can do is handcuffs? Any coach who sits in the interview process and says that he wants to transform the roster and start his cuts in February won't get the chance.

Edwards will get looks early. Early includes the preseason and training camp. If he does well, he'll play. If he doesn't, he'll sit. To think otherwise is just an exercise in emotion. The same goes for Clausen and all the other Huddle whipping-boys on the roster.

I'm sure Hurney will look Harbaugh in the eyes with a straight face and tell him he has to give Clausen a chance to start or he won't be a candidate for the job.

That would be awesome.

I think that if we hire a coach who makes up his mind about players before seeing them in training camp, it won't be too awesome at all.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Clausen earns the first snap of the first preseason game, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he looks like a completely different player. I doubt anyone will be particularly surprised if he looks the same and never leaves the bench. After this season, I don't think there's too many things that would surprise me, save passing on Luck if he comes out.

I don't really care who starts next year. I just hope they play at a much, much higher level than what we've had this year.
