NFL Coaching vs NFL Team Talents... who to blame for losses?

Coaching vs. Overall Team Talent

With all the coaches changes going on around the NFL I thought it would be interesting to discuss rather it is coaching or overall team talent that is mostly to blame for overall team suckage. With all the firings, and talk radio call ins it is very clear that coaching seems to always get majority of the blame. Is this correct? I’m not sure but some interesting thoughts on the subject.

Who’s to blame for poor execution, coaching or players? Should coaches be the blame for players not performing up to their potential, or is it on the players to take ownership for their play? One thing I do know about this is it take a lot of maturity and dedication from players to be ready on Sunday. I’ve been in a NFL locker room, seen the playbook, and been involved in personal training sessions. That alone is a damn job… I mean were talking off days and the offseason where you have to have a strong commitment to a routine and preparing yourself. If the player does not do what he needs to do could that be on coaching for not providing proper motivation to get the player to be accountable and do what he needs to do to be ready on Sunday.

If a team is lacking fundamentals is that on coaching or the players? Fundamentals means it’s something routine a player should not how to do, but at the same time a coach probably needs to continually reinforce these fundamentals. So when a player misses that tackle who is to blame?

Team’s that seem to have better and more consistent QB play and better overall team personal usually win’s game and their coaches are not on the hot seat. Are those coaches better because of the talent on their team, or are they really better coaches who get the most out of talent. Example… If Mike Singletary or another fired coach was the coach for the Colts would they be out of a job. Is Caldwell really a good coach, or would he have been fired if he was in San Fran? Is that a job where the players are good enough to coverage any coaching deficiencies you have?

Does your team not being a winner mean you are a bad coach? I’ve lurked around other message boards and on most of the teams who are out of the playoffs, or are not performing very well there is call for coaching changes or blame being put on the coaches. Is this fair? Can a great coach overcome below average talent for the NFL and coach his way to the playoffs? I don’t know…. Is it really all of these coaches?

I know coaching is VERY important in the NFL, probably more than any other sport… and Talent is also very important. But who should shoulder the blame when a team does not reach expectations (Which is usually very high from each individual fan base) Players not executing, or coaches not getting them to execute? Is blaming the coaches becoming the quick and easy thing to do, or is the thing to do because it is the right and accurate thing?

Anyway…. What Say You????

you can never fully blame one side....ever. I know you still want a concrete, but Im being difficult

I know it's never gonna be completely one-side.... So answer this question... Based on all of that, do you think all the coaches who got fired, will be fired, or is on the hotseat to be fired, derserves out. Or are some of them being fired unfairly because the lack of overall team/QB talent compared to the rest of the NFL is not good enough to be a contender?

All players are going to make mistakes. It's when they consistently make them and or they are consistently in the wrong place and appear lost is when the coaches should be held accountable. Also when players lack motivation or quit playing hard then yeah blame the coach. One last thing run run sack punt. (blame the coach)

I hate when untalented teams fire their coaches only a few years in and when uber talented teams don't fire their coaches when they don't produce.

If Gailey got fired it'd be wrong. Norv should have been in some kind of trouble.

I'm torn on Singletary. Not sure they have tons of talent but they should have won the west with the talent they had. Meh.

Sometimes, people say a team is talented when it really isn't. Take us for example. In 04/05, I heard fans say how talented a team we were. Problem is that the talent was all on the defensive side. Other than Smith, we had no talent on the offensive side other than Moose in 04, and Smith in 05.

But I would say coaching, especially if coaches have a lot of influence as to what players are brought in. Also, luck plays a big role as well. For example, Belicheck lucking into picking up Brady in the 6th round.
