You are a Saints fan, what would you know about BBQ? Go play with the Cayenne pepper, and leave us alone. :)

I know that TN Style BBQ is > than anything ive had in NC. ive been VERY dissapointed in the BBQ ive had since ive been here and was actually looking forward to the great NC BBQ id heard about. Please point me in the direction of great NC BBQ. Ill give an honest opinion.

Ive eaten at Lexington it aint all that. Like i said Bridges is ok.

Chopping the poo up is half the problem. I think you dont get the same flavor you do out of pulled.

BTW i am NOT talking about Ribs. Not crazy about the dry ribs like Rendezvous does. Not crazy about Rendezvous.

Somebody a few posts back wanted to know about BBQ in Smithfield, NC... not the restaurant.

My favorite is White Swan. It's about the closest you will find to pulled pork off a smoker in terms of taste.

Holt's Lake is a close second, though I haven't had them in a long time.

Stay away from McCall's in Clayton. That place is crap. It is just the local food trough for people on lunch break. I got BBQ from there once, it came out still VERY pink and cold. I got up and left.

The best BBQ however can only be found after injesting at least a 6-pack during the summer after swimming and finding the local hick who has a whole pig on the cooker.

White Swan is a chain. I'm not fond of chain bbq joints.

McCall's is hit or miss. I've only eaten at the Goldsboro location, though. They started out in their backyard outside of Pikeville.

Bill's in Wilson is still the best imo. The meat is handchopped, not put through a grinder. Bill also has pigpickin style. The hog is laid out and you get what you want from where you want it. He also has both sauces. The banana pudding and cobblers are made fresh every morning by the same lady.

Bill's a sonofabitch, but he knows bbq.

Speedy's in Lexington is my favorite. But like I said, all that Cayenne and hot stuff has destroyed your taste buds and the subtle flavors are no longer noticeable to you. :)

Btw, you can order it chopped or sliced at every BBQ place I have ever been to.

I have had bbq in Mississippi and Tn. Mississippi was passable, but what I had in Tn was wretched. They actually gave me a bbq sandwich with a friggin tomato on it. In what universe is that ok?

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
