Can we win.....Next Year?

Awesomeness!!

As with any team, staying healthy is key. If we can, we only need to fill 4 or 5 starting positions: QB, DT, DT, RG, and possibly CB. We should upgrade at every one of them.

Now add Otah, Wharton, Thomas Davis, and DWilliams to the starting mix. Upgrades.

Add experience at the WR spots and a better QB throwing to them. Upgrades.

Add a better offensive coordinator who can utilize TEs and understands the game. upgrade

Add a Franchise QB and depth through the draft/ upgrade.

Where are we weak? Where is anyone better than we are on offense--maybe TE and maybe WR- but not necessarily. It takes a year or two for WRs to develop. We could be getting good there. Throw in Barnidge and a free agent TE, bam. Upgrade.

Can we win? Sure. Will we have a winning record? Too much up in the air to make any predictions. But if we draft a rookie quarterback next year, it will be a learning process all over like it was with Clausen. Hopefully though the new rookie has more talent and ability than Clausen. At this point I would take a guy who can see and throw over the top of defenders.

Yeah, it's the NFL you can turn things around JUST THAT FAST!

I'm too lazy, someone check how the team picking #1 overall finished the next season for the last 10 years or so.

Since 2002:

2002-2003: Cincinatti (2-14 in 2002; Carson Palmer; 8-8 in 2003)

2003-2004: San Diego (4-12 in 2003; Manning to Rivers; 12-4 in 2004)

2004-2005: San Francisco (2-14 in 2004; Alex Smith; 4-12 in 2005)

2005-2006: Houston (2-14 in 2005; Mario Williams; 6-10 in 2006)

2006-2007: Oakland (2-14 in 2006; JaMarcus Russell; 4-12 in 2007)

2007-2008: Miami (1-15 in 2007; Jake Long; 11-5 in 2008)

2008-2009: Detroit (0-16 in 2008; Matthew Stafford; 2-14 in 2009)

2009-2010: St. Louis (1-15 in 2009; Sam Bradford; 7-8 YTD in 2010)
