Remember whe McNabb was passed over for Tim Couch?

I'm interested to see how Luck fares against VT. IMO, that is a make or break game for him and Harbaugh. If Luck can look good and put up decent numbers, win or lose, he'll be the #1 and I think Harbaugh punches his ticket to Ann Arbor (not Carolina, contrary to popular belief). If Luck stinks it up or plays poorly he stays another year and so does Harbaugh.

There is a lot riding on that game for both coach and player because they are tied so closely to each others success and percieved abilities (see Brady and Belichick).

That said, a 2-14* team needs more than a Qb, because even one that wears an "S" on his helmet isn't going to be enough to win games, now or in the future.

If the Panthers are smart, they trade the pick (blasphemy, I know) to move down and accumulate more picks. With CB, QB, DT, and OL being main concerns, it just makes sense.

Stop talking nonsense. Haven't you heard Luck = Peyton Manning?

Trading down and acquiring more picks is the smart thing to do, regardless of how many scouts want to blow Luck.

A QB that isn't mentioned much but I think will be a good NFL QB is Greg McElroy. Sign a vet, draft McElroy, and let him and Pickles sit for a year and see who has the goods.

My question to all of you is this.

If Luck doesn't declare who the fug are we going to trade back with? Without Luck there is no consensus no.1 overall pick. If we did trade back we will not get what many on this board would want, as there is not a Sam Bradford or Peyton Manning sitting out there.

Either Luck declares and we take him, or we are fuged into taking the BPA with the 1st, there is no way to trade out.

if it's one thing that's burned us at QB in recent history it's aging vets not potential no.1 rookie draft picks

Bingo....you do not build a good team by filling in the QB positions with past their prime vets, while not having a young signal caller who is worth two shits on the roster.

Cut Moore....sign a vet...draft Luck.

End of story.

This part sounds close to reality

I think the scariest thing when comparing Luck to other first round QBs is his last name. Couch, Leaf, Luck and Car (liberty taken here obv.) are real words. Manning and Bradford are not.

Really though, you've gotta take the chance. This is a passing league and we need the right guy under center. A good QB will give this team the identity it has been missing the entirety of its existence. The media only cares about teams with QBs, doesn't matter how good the overall team is either. If the Panthers had a bonafide QB, ESPN would care. Market size doesn't matter, it's all about the face of your franchise. Luck would make this team relevant.

Look, I know the easiest thing in the world to do is to say "pick Luck" because:

*all of the talking heads are slurping him

*our QB play hasn't been good in forever

*the current trend is "Must have elite QB to compete"

*we're rebuilding so let's start with a young QB

It's also easy to say "don't pick Luck" because:

*drafting QB's is a crap shoot

*we have glaring needs elsewhere

*even if he's really good, it'll take a few years for him to develop

That being said, I say let's go for it. I'm just not sold on Clausen-- I heard so much about how he was ahead of the other QB's with his maturity and pocket presence but I never heard much about his arm strength. I know why now-- I haven't seen him complete a zipped pass down the middle or the 15 yard out.

I'm not saying Luck is going to be the second coming, but we may be pulling a Hornets move and sending Kobe to the Lakers.

Plus, it seems to me that we must improve our offense. Our defense has been decent (even being on the field so much in bad field position, and without Thomas Davis). Our offense has been offensive.

Trade the 1st pick for the 49ers first rounder, 2nd rounder and 4th rounder...

Pick Cam Newton with the 7th pick and pick up a DT in the 2nd (Crick, Powe or Casey). Upgrade the Online with the 3rd round pick... Then Grab a WR and Oline help in the fourth round (maybe Titus Young and Clint Boling).

That look better for you Zod???
