Carolina's hand is forced here, you HAVE to pick a QB. With Brees, Ryan, and Freeman in the division now you have to find a QB to compete with them or you won't be relavent for a very long time. As said above the days of game managing QBs, power running games, and dominating defense are over. The league has evolved with the amount of great-good QBs in the league.

There isnt that many. There might be 7-8 But most of the league there isnt. A good defensive team still can make any QB look like crap none are capable of overcoming a great pass rushing cover defensive team.

Whenever they've broken down the first round, the D and O Lines usually average about a 1/3 fail rate whereas QB is about a 1/2 fail rate, so it is technically slightly riskier to take a QB.

I think anybody would agree that it's worth the risk.

Fwiw, I agree that Luck could easily end up a bust. Probably at least a 50/50 chance of that happening. And there is only about a 1 in 4 chance that he will be as good as advertised. But if he is available, we have to take the chance. The rewards if he is as good as advertised are too good to pass up.

I don't know about Couch, but Carr was terrible, and was always going to be terrible in the NFL.

Regarding Bradford, the jury is still out. If Jimmy Clausen got to start twice against NFC West teams, his numbers would be a lot better.
