Think about what you'd have to trade...

AE? When I think AE I think camarillo, welker, or woodhead. Undervalued players that were traded and became stars. That could be AE next year after he has some time to learn and get comfortable in his new position, minus the trade part. Hopefully the new coach can bring in an OC that can figure out how to utilize him to his full potential, woodhead-esque.

we brought in Clowny because AE couldn't get on the field, neither could Clowny....but which would you rather have right now AE or that 33rd pick?

Hmmm.... Gotta see what a serviceable OC can do. Plus a year of experience. Dude has athleticism and potential out the ass.

We're going to trade the top pick anyway cause Luck isnt coming out.

Would you spend a 33rd pick on Welker or Woodhead?

Luck is without a doubt a sure prospect. What seperates him from busts of the past is his work ethic and attitude. Ryan Leaf's attitude was jacked up, and his skills probably wasn't all that great. Jamarcus Russell had a great arm, but his work ethic was that of a sloth's. If he changed his position to T or G, he would be a probowler. Luck has outstanding work ethic. He's a smart kid, and is a competitor to the bone. Couple that with his talent, there is no way he is a bust.

So what happens if he does turn into a bust? Are you going to get on here and eat your crow? Should we ever take your word again?

So with that logic, we should never change head coaches because the next one might suck?

How about brining in a coach with some previous experience and had success maybe....

I could use all your quotes against you. Luck is "the sure thing" right?

Lets go out on a limb and make a trade that helps more then 1 area of our football team. Lets "take a chance" and trade down in the draft. Lets "dare" to pass on Luck, for Peterson, AJ Green, or Fairly.

Why not go out on a limb and do that?

In other news, I think its interesting that on the Panthers site Sean Gilbert is not listed under the trades section when we gave up 2 1st rounders for him.

Always made me wonder why that isn't on there. Yes, he was a Franchise Free Agent but picks were traded in order to acquire him for compensation.

Not to mention that under the new CBA a rookie salary cap will be an almost certainty. Instead of paying him 78 mil for 6 years, like Sam Bradford, you would more than likely be paying 20-30 mil for 4-5 years. It makes the cost of this pick almost priceless if Luck comes out. There would be no amount of compensation that would make sense for the Panthers even if they doubted that Luck would become a superstar because the money that Panthers would have tied up in him would be negligible and worth the risk.

Here is a link to the draft value chart from draft countdown. For those that do not know, it's used by teams to determine the compensation for trading picks.

There is a higher fudge factor at the top, and since an additional first pick may be involved, it is nice to have a good feel if your trading partner is improving or spiraling downward.

I'd Like Luck, but since it's not guaranteed, the chart helps to have a realistic conversation about compensation.
