Time Warner Cable..

Awesomeness!!

Recommended Posts

I got a uverse rep outside my house right now getting everything set up. I tried months ago but I wasn't close enough to their node, now it seems everything is good to go. My hatred of TWC has no bounds. For years I've had their internet go in and out at random times at 2 different places now. Good riddance.

i'm looking seriously at installing an HD antenna outdoors, and saying fug em all! that would get me almost all the channels i watch most of the time, and the others I can watch online at my leisure. i hate paying a hundred bucks a month for something I don't even use that much.

Did this a long time ago when the pirate TV went out and I have not looked back. Only thing I miss is NFL network cause they steal NFL games now from regular TV.

one of the better setups if you go no cable is setup a network with your xbox/ps3 to your computer's hard drive.. download all the TV show's dvds, movies, etc.. without netflix and watch everything on your TV..

Or just use a flash drive like I do. Simple and easy.

I hate all of them. The lesser of the evils is DirecTV

Directv is more expensive and less reliable. But they are the only one that has the channels my wife wants to watch, so I am stuck with them.

Fwiw, in 5 years the only time I had a problem with Time Warner is when the cable router started going out, but the helpdesk tried to tell me the problem was with my three computers instead of their one router. Kept calling back and finally got someone who agreed to switch out the router, and from that point till the next month when I switched to ATT for Internet, it worked fine. But hey, I am only a network engineer, I certainly don't know more than some guy working the helpdesk. :)

Had the same issue in SW Charlotte on Christmas night. No signal on sat 1 or 2. Went out with a broom early Sunday morning, wiped off the 1/2" of snow that had accumulated on the bottom half of the disc and the signal came back immediately (it was still snowing at the time).

Note: I've always had signal troubles when the pink line (TheWeather Channel Interactive map) that denotes the change from rain to snow moves past, almost as bad as severe thunderstorms. It seemed to hover just below my area (think of a line from Lake Wylie to Pineville) for most of Christmas night.

Yea, I did the same thing on the lower antennae and it worked. Unfortunately, we have two (one for international and one for domestic) and the domestic one is on the roof. I would do without before I would climb on my roof during a snowstorm. :)

congrats.. their internet is faster than TWC.. it shouldn't be, but I've noticed a big difference..

that too..

you may need an updated receiver.. only reason it should be giving you problems.. unless it wasn't installed correctly..

Just got a new one when we upgraded to HD. The installer said they had eliminated a lot of the issues with it, but it still has the same problem. It just goes out during a storm, and we have had a lot of them during the year.

Regarding the internet being faster or slower, there are a lot of factors that figure into that. One of the biggest factors is available bandwidth versus utilization. I found that with Time Warner, my internet speed was faster during the day when school was in session, because all the kids in my neighborhood were not using it. But during the summer, it was more intermittent. Not to long ago, TWC upgraded the infrastructure in the area, but I had already switched, so it didn't matter. But I haven't noticed much of a difference between ATT DSL and Road Runner. Of course, I bought the highest speed ATT had available.

that's interesting.. I know people who have updated theirs and it never goes out, even with the high winds we've had this past month or so.. (rain included)

I've had a few TWC people try to explain it to me.. Some seem to say TWC throttles their bandwidth down after about 15 mins of use (downloading primarily)..

ATT's transformer (whatever you will call it) has to be within 3000 ft of your house in order for you to get service, which would be why one person said it was barely close enough to get it.. that in and of itself would explain a stronger signal, esp with it being DSL.. while cable is affected by a lot more people in a bigger area.. (this affects TV quality too for cable users.. You're DirecTV has a much more intense signal than you'll ever find with cable)
