Why would Luck NOT come out?

There really is no reason to go back and he'd be crazy if he did. Locker didn't come out last year because Bradford is/was a way better prospect. Bradford didn't come out two years ago because everyone was in love with Matt Stafford.

There isn't anyone else that could unseat Luck from #1. People need to tell him there is such a thing as online courses and summer school...lots of options for school. Not so many for the NFL.

Because we are taking DeAndre Pressley, QB, THE Appalachian State University, with the first pick in the draft. Hurney is trying to trade up to assure we get him in the event of NFL expansion.

I guess the reasons I don't think he'll stay are:

A) I think Harbaugh is gone...either to a better college job or to the NFL.

Its not like the Bradford situation because there isn't anyone projected ahead of him. Bradford stayed because everyone was in love with Matt Stafford. It was essentially a given that he was #1 and Bradford didn't want to risk a Brady Quinn type slide.

C) I don't think Carolina is a bad destination. We have a really respected owner that is loyal to his players. There isn't ANY competition and we could essentially build the team around Luck (bring in a vet to teach him). When Otah comes back next year we will have a stout running game for him to lean on. Finally, we have a HELL of a lot of cap room to give him a big, fat contract. Not to mention we could probably sign a legit free agent WR to help him out in the event that Smitty leaves.

D) You can finish school whenever you want. You can't exactly go #1 whenever you want. Bradford was extremely lucky that he went #1 despite the injury. There was no competition for that #1 slot and he got injured the first game of the year which gave him 9-10 months to rehab. Imagine going back and getting injured during game 9-10 and then your draft position is screwed

Luck stays due to: His desire to live out his college days and seek a degree. Weak reason. He sees a long labor dispute. Strong reason. Harbaugh stays.

I do not believe that the Panthers are the reason he won't come out. If that was the case I think he would demand a trade. Plus, we're honestly one of the better teams of the last few years to be drafting #1.

We have great backs, a decent OL (would be better IMO if it was healthy), a star receiver and two young guns who have both shown they can make plays.

A new coach is not all that rare if you're coming out as #1.

I think that there are a few things that are issues with Luck coming out:

1) Wanting to finish his degree.

2) Concern over the lockout, which falls into two categories:

-Not wanting to miss a year of football

-Not wanting to be forced into a starting role on a team when he only gets the playbook close to the season due to a short offseason because of the lockout.

3) Loyalty to Harbaugh and wanting to continue being coached by him at Stanford.

The Patriots are dangling 2 1st picks and a second in front of Hurney, if Luck comes out. You don't take that?

We have an OL that is second worst in the league, by allowing 47 sacks and what, 3 concussions to our QB's. The OL sucks and this team is not a QB away from the playoffs. The Panthers get blowed out almost every week, because of talent across the board, not just play at the QB position.

I say Luck comes out and we pick him, but we better pick up an OL through the FA process. (along with DT and CB)

Ask Matt Moore how great Gross is... and Luck will be young and inexperienced also, it's not all on the QB. Actually if Clausen doesn't throw away a lot of passes, the Panthers would lead the league in sacks. Not saying Clausen is great, but the the OL is awful.

Clausen is very good at stepping right into the rush. He could have avoided many sacks if he had any sort of pocket presence whatsoever. I believe he has finally started actually stepping up into the pocket for the first time all season just recently.
