what was up with all of the kicks to the 12 this season? one goes 8 yards deep and the next is fielded at the 12. then we get all of those line drives that are picked up at the 18 and run back to the 35.

it would seem he would just boot the ball through the back of the endzone on every kick.

anyone else notice that?

also, in pregame warmups, he was kicking 60 yarders through the upper half of the goal posts. i bet he can clear the crossbar from 70. why not let him go for a record sometime. i waited all season for him to maybe get a shot. you'd think up 34-0 against KC they'd let him try it. geez.

Lining up for a 70 yard field goal isn't like kicking off. you dont get a running start on a field goal like a kick off. If the kicker backed up as much as he does on a kick off the holder would probably get sacked. And the extra time allows for more penetration on a ball that would start off with a much lower tragectory then say a 40 yd field goal making it even easier to block. Is it possible to make one? Yes, but the special teams feild goal unit better be blocking their tails off to give the kicker the time to get his momentum going.

I dont think he can stand two strides back like John K does and kick the hell out of it and get it there.

I agree on the 70 yard thing.

But I've seen in him practice boot a ball from the 50. It was very impressive with room to spare.

I was hope'n he get a try for a long FG. but, then again, I hoped we weren't in that position too.

One thing to point out, although I rarely want to see him kick a 70 yarder unless we are up by 34 or more, is that Rhys Lloyd doesn't take that many steps on kick offs.

He comes off at an angle to kick the ball. I doubt he takes more than 4 steps. But I could be wrong in what I remember.

It always seemed to me that he had far fewer touchbacks during cold weather games. I figured he isn't comfortable kicking on cold days and tones it down a notch to avoid serious mistakes.

I agree that we should line him up for 52+ yarders.

when asked about cold weather kicks, he said the K balls were like kicking a rock. They are supposed to be kept warm, but apparently that doesn't always happen.

i agree with you and that was my whole point. he doesn't take the normal running start other kickers do to get more drive into the ball during a kick off as opposed to a field goal. imagine how many rows up he'd put the ball if one of the special teams coaches actually did their job and worked with him on adjusting his approach. i can't believe someone with the team hasn't noticed he does a field goal approach on kickoffs. he's kicked several this season that barely crossed the 10.
