Not so fast Barry

Just heard a blurb on ESPN Radio that could be big.

Quoting a New York Times story, they reported that federal prosecutors have record of urine samples from Barry Bonds that came up positive for steroids.

"Not really news" you say since Bonda has already admitted to using the designer steroids that were created by BALCO, but claimed not to know they were performance enhancing drugs. The defense has also pointed out that the "Cream" and "Clear" drugs were not legally defined as steroids at the time they were being used.

Valid points, if the steroids found in Bonds' samples were the Cream and the Clear.

According to the story, they're not.

Haven't seen a writeup on it yet, only heard the announcer read the main points. Good chance there's more info to come out, and the defense will of course try to counter.

With that said, if this does indeed prove true, and it holds up in the trial, Bonds is done for.

Stay tuned on this one.

A person who has reviewed the evidence said that the authorities detected anabolic steroids in urine samples linked to Bonds that they gathered in connection with their investigation. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The evidence could be significant because questions have been raised about whether the “clear,” which like the “cream” was created to avoid detection in drug tests, was technically a steroid under federal law when Bonds testified before a federal grand jury in November 2003.

It was that testimony, in which Bonds denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs, that led to his indictment on perjury charges in 2007. A trial on those charges is set to begin March 2.

When Bonds testified, he said he took the “cream” and the “clear” but did not believe they were performance-enhancing drugs. Specifically, Bonds said that he thought the “cream” was a rubbing balm for arthritis and that the “clear” was flaxseed oil.

Asked directly before the grand jury if he took steroids, Bonds said no.

This is old news. The article I posted a few weeks back said the Feds last ditch effort was some magical urine samples they've pulled out their ass and to try to prove Bonds use some other form of substance. And again for the 50 millionth time, Bonds has never admitted to using any steroids.

Even if the Feds managed to find Bonds guilty he's looking at like 2 months tops in prison. Thats hardly something to beat your chest about when you've spent over 55 mill, 5 years, and hours and hours of manpower trying to take down Barry "Al Capone" Bonds. And if he walks, you've only added to his legend as the Home Run King who overcame vigilantism and hatred to beat the Feds. LOL.

If he had just admitted he used them, he wouldn't serve any jail time and the Feds wouldn't be after him. You don't lie to the Feds.

Actually he'd probably serve about the same time as that female runner. The big thing would be tarnishing a already tarnished reputation and record even more. It could keep him out of the HOF too.

Really, it is a waste. Everyone knows he used roids and cheated, so did a ton of other guys. Why prove something we already know?

Because he lied to the feds. Ask Michael Vick about that.

Now a former teammate is going to testify against him as well: link

Former major league catcher Bobby Estalella is expected to provide significant testimony to support the government's contention that former San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds knowingly took steroids, according to a source with knowledge of the evidence.

wo sources have confirmed that Estalella has been subpoenaed to testify in Bonds perjury trial, scheduled to start March 2 in federal court in San Francisco. Estalella is expected to provide testimony of first-hand knowledge about Bonds' alleged steroid use, ESPN has learned.

Estalella was a teammate of Bonds' on the Giants during the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

In his leaked testimony during the BALCO investigation, Estalella admitted to a grand jury that he had used the "cream," the "clear" and human growth hormone that was provided to him by Greg Anderson, Bonds' personal trainer.
