Everybody (Forum Enthusiasts) outside of Carolina thinks we should keep Clausen....

If Luck decides to not come out then yeah, lets build around Clausen but Luck would be too much talent to pass over.

I'm not sure I could even say this - if Luck doesn't come out look at another option for QB but Clausen, even if he does have some super hidden potential, is probably shell shocked and needs to not be starting.

*disclaimer* I do not believe Clausen has super hidden potential myself. I think he is probably going to end up a career backup or a starter for a team that can't / won't spend the money for the now-necessary good QB (and let's all hope that after this year that team isn't us....)

well, the past 5 years having the #1 pick isnt' attractive for most teams b/c of the cost associated with it. This pick w/ a rookie wage scale in place would make it attractive to just about everyone. Bowl games, combine, and simply time could still allow someone else to emerge as the "must get" guy if Carolina wanted to trade and Luck didnt' declare

There will be other guys like Mallett, Locker, Newton, etc. The issue is that none of them are so head and shoulders above the others that teams would trade picks to move up 2 or 3 slots. The only guy would be luck. As for a rookie cap that will make drafts picks in general more valuable so teams won't be handing a bunch over to move up to the number 1 pick. I would agree that the top 5 picks may be more affordable but lets see what the rookie cap looks like before deciding how great it will be or how it might impact the top pick being more desirable. If Luck is there folks will pay the price no matter what. As for the other guys, lets wait and see.

Keep Clausen and draft Luck.

If Luck does not come out, sign a vet and keep Clausen.

One season a career does not make. The main issue people have with him is not having confidence in his receivers to throw it in tight spaces. That is pretty easy to overcome with a decent QB coach and off season.

Look at his progression year after year in college, I think it's worth keeping him for year 2 of his cheap rookie deal just to see if anything changes, Luck or no Luck.

Basically it comes down to...if we pass on Luck and he turns out to be the next Peyton Manning...Jerry Richardson and everyone else who works for the Panthers will be run out of town by pitchforks and burning spears.

I don't think that is an issue (could be wrong) as it's been a long time that there has been a #1 head and shoulders above the rest, not just down to the draft class being weak, but head and shoulders above recent #1's as well.

So even if we had full faith in Clausen, you draft Luck because he is that once every 10 years player at his position. I doubt anyone in the FO would disagree with that. Nothing puts butts in seats like a #1 pick on a QB...

The issue is if he comes out, because if he doesn't there aint much we can do about it. Then we should try and build round Clausen by improving our biggest problem areas other than QB.

If he still can't get it done, we might have a shot at Luck next year. I just really don't understand this infatuation with the 2nd tier of QBs, because they have just as many if not more questions than Clausen had when he was coming out.

Also remember that JR tried to get Manning with a big trade but couldnt get them to bite.

I don't know, the fact he lacks just about every desired physical attribute people look for in an NFL QB is a concern as well.

That is just completely not true.

Look we know you can't stand him, you think he is the worst ever QB to grace the game (pretty sure you would try and argue JRussel was a better QB).

However some of us actually try to remain fairly objectional and want to see if he can progress. Never have I said we do not take Luck because of him, that would be stupid.

However to just refuse to believe that he might be able to improve and progress into a decent level is just stubbornness, especially based on this nightmare of a season.
