Everybody (Forum Enthusiasts) outside of Carolina thinks we should keep Clausen....

why is that? I have read many sites since we locked up the #1 and the common argument people are making is for us to keep clausen (since he is an unproven rookie) and build around him in the draft to help him out. Why do people believe we should pass on Luck (if he comes out), only to get alot of draft picks and build around Clausen?

Because nobody actually watches Carolina Football other than us.

They just know we have a young QB and can build around him.... Don't realize how poo he has been.

If Luck doesn't come out, there won't be an opportunity to trade down and collect picks. If Luck does come out, only a fool would pass on him.

How many teams have traded down from the number 1 pick in the last five years?? Yeah.............

For me I would pick the best quarterback in the draft no matter who it was. The last few weeks watching Skelton, The Golden Calf of Bristol and others have convinced me it isn't being a rookie, it is Clausen.

WE have struggled for a decade developing a strong offense. It is time we actually can score points and dominate a game on offense particularly passing the ball.

check the espn blog about us getting #1 pick. About half the board thinks we should build around clausen.

I stopped reading when I got to "about half the board".

I assume you're referring to the commenters? I barely care what the national media who's paid to report about football thinks about our personnel decisions - let alone what fans from other cities think.

If you took a straw poll most of them are probably fans from other cities hoping player-x falls to them and the remainder have knowledge of Clausen limited to his pre-draft profile and his one week of national notoriety because he managed to have a not-completely-asstacular game against a Cardinals team floundering just as much as we are.

well, the past 5 years having the #1 pick isnt' attractive for most teams b/c of the cost associated with it. This pick w/ a rookie wage scale in place would make it attractive to just about everyone. Bowl games, combine, and simply time could still allow someone else to emerge as the "must get" guy if Carolina wanted to trade and Luck didnt' declare

If you change everybody to almost nobody but some random message board posters from other teams, then you would be correct.

Sporting News

1. Carolina Panthers: Andrew Luck*, QB, Stanford

The Panthers' new coach will want an elite quarterback. Jimmy Clausen is not that guy, so the Panthers grabs Luck to lead the rebuilding effort and immediately re-energize the offense.

The Bleacher Report

Carolina should draft Luck No. 1 overall based on what has happened with Sam Bradford and the positive things he has already done with St. Louis. It's just not realistic that they could pass on a quarterback with the strength, size and athletic ability that Luck has. Count on it

Others are saying pretty much the same thing.
