If you want Luck, Harbaugh is the key

Can you really hold that against him? There can't be one member of their staff who isn't hampered by their senile overlord of an owner.

He seems like the real deal to me - you know with all my armchair ownerness.

Oh no, I'm not knocking the Raiders, even though I totally could. But isn't that his resume in the pros? Why is he a lock to be a good coach? I just don't understand. I would never call into question your armchair ownerness. I just wonder why we are in such a hurry to hire him.

Seriously. What's the obsession with us having John Harbaugh?

Is it the fact that his brother had some decent success?

Is it the fact that he was a QB coach in the NFL before, thus making him different. Just because you coached in the NFL, doesn't mean that you're going to rise from college and dominate the pro ranks. See: Nick Saban

Is it the fact that everyone is so enamored by Andrew Luck? Because, honestly, I think that 1) Luck is coming out and 2) we're going to get him. It doesn't matter if Joe Schmo or Joe the Plumber is our coach.

So please, tell me. What makes everyone think that Harbaugh is 100% the real deal.

(If you say he has a winning record at Stanford, and coached in the NFL at some point, then I'll point you to Nick Saban and Pete Carroll.)

Truthfully I think that at least a good portion of the people who are on Harbaugh are so because they believe he's going to bring Luck with him if he comes here for sure and the fact that Harbaugh has coached Luck before will ease the transition into new offense. There may or may not be something to this but it's not my feeling on the matter.

I personally think that, after reading up on Harbaugh since he's been mentioned, he's a better gamble than a lot of the other options (existing NFL coaches included). Any coaching hire is going to carry with it some measure of "he might not work out" and just like with draft picks you take your gambles where you think you'll come out on top.

The powers that be might know something about him that we don't - but from publicly available information he looks like an ok bet.

A lot of my interest in Harbaugh stems from the fact he has taken school that is not known for it's amazing athletes and really coached them up.

I'm sure the Panthers will make a good choice either way. I want us to move in a young, offensive direction, which is why I am leaning towards Harbaugh.

Also, harbaugh leaving Stanford, be it for us or some place else, virtually guarantees Luck enters the draft. Just seems silly for him to stay without Harbaugh, though maybe he is confident enough in himself...

either way, there are other QBs in the draft, and I'm sure we'll grab at least one of 'em, I just hope our talent guys are at the top of their game.

That's the point I don't get, Mav. I want us to move in a definite offensive mindset, and have a good, young coach to do so with. But, I think there are options out there who are just as viable.

Mike McCoy, for one. He already knows some of the players, is familiar with the organization, and the facilities. Sure, Darin Gantt says he's uncharismatic, but he also says that Mike McCoy is highly regarded in the Panthers organization.

Then, there's another guy who I really wouldn't mind as our head coach. Mike Mularkey. I know that's not the "cool" thing to think, but the guy had two 9 win seasons in Buffalo! Buffalo!!

But, I digress. I just want to know the obsession with Harbaugh. I see these people, who are like, "OMGz WE MUST HAVE HARBAUGH OR ELSE I BE BOOIN' NEXT SEASUN!" or something along those lines...

just because someone is highly regarded doesnt mean they will be a good HC. I will pass on Mike Mccoy. But u do know we have a head coaching thread right?

Yeah, I was just asking the people who posted in this thread about how we had to have Harbaugh AND Luck as some sort of package deal.

I'd like Mularkey a lot. Plus I really enjoy saying his name.
