How many years has it been 2 weeks between AFC & NFC championship and the Superbowl?

Marshall Faulk said on NFLN that he didn't have 2 weeks to prepare for his Superbowls.

I though they have been doing it over10-15 years.

I know it has been all of this century. And it seems like for a few years they were doing it every other year. So yeah something like 10 or 15 years since the bi week started.

I think there were some years where it was only 7 days between CCGs and the Super Bowl, no rhyme or reason that I can remember.

Didn't 911 delay the NFL season and that year they went with 1 week between NFCCG and SBowl. That would make sense because the Pats beat the Lambs that year.

No, it looks like in 2003 they created the bye before the the super bowl. During 2001 they postponed all games during the week of 9/11 and added a week 18 to the regular season, thus pushing all the playoff games back 1 week. This new schedule stuck and this is why the Super Bowl is always in February instead of the end of January. But back on subject from a quick search on NFL.com they added the extra week in 2003.

Found it, and I guess Faulk would know. It was the 1999-2000 season and the Super Bowl matchup was the Rams and Titans. Conference championships were January 23rd, Super Bowl January 30th.

It's been two weeks ever since. They also fiddled with the scheduling to move some matchups to prime time shortly thereafter.

Next year it'll be the Pro Bowl in-between. I like that move, though I think they should have kept the game in Hawaii.

actually the poster you responded to was correct. There was one week between the superbowl and championship games was after the 2001 season when week 2 was delayed and played after week 17, pushing all the playoffs but the superbowl back one week.

My mistake. They went to two weeks the following year. Thought I remembered it being two weeks ever since.
