I rarely watch the NFL outside of the Carolina Panthers games. Today I'm watching the Jets @ Bears game and am a bit stunned by what I'm seeing. I feel like I came across a time machine and went a century into the future. They play the game entirely different. There is so much misdirection and (and i'm not just talking about a counter run). They have me on my heels and I'm not even the one having to stop them.

Hard to understand how a team can be that much further ahead in terms of how they come into the games compared to the Panthers. Wish I could send this footage to Jerry Richardson somehow. Maybe I'll email him.

These days, rules being what they are and as razor thin as the differences between talent level can be, not sure I buy that approach.

That is the Lombardi way, one that no longer works on a consistant basis in the NFL.

Talent levels are very very similar in the NFL. The teams that good year in and year out either have brilliant HC's, great QB's, or a mixture of both.

We have none of that.

This goes back to the coaching staff helping out our ailing passing game by using little things like mis-direction to get a quick bit of separation. This may or may not have helped Jimmy get a little confidence in throwing to our WRs, however it certainly would have got the defences he is facing off balance.

I have said it before, our HC/OC combination has done absolutely nothing but make Jimmy's, Matt's or any of the other QB's jobs harder. There was so much they could do to help our QB's out, but they didn't. They kept sticking to the same formula, despite our execution being poor time after time.

I was thinking the same thing. I watch about 5 games a week and it makes me sick to see the originality that other teams have. The talent we have employed with a creative coach with some origniality could really turn us into a solid and descent team.

I'd love to see Rex Ryan as our HC, Rob Ryan as the DC and Mike Martz as the OC...When you have a coach that starts every sentence with 'duhhh' you get what we have...

Trust me, you learn a lot - and gain loads of perspective - by watching more games on a regular basis.

Take a look at the starting QBs in the NFL right now.

3 Qbs over a rating of 100

13 Qbs over a rating of 90

21 Qbs over a rating of 80

29 Qbs over a rating of 70

ALL Carolinas Qbs have been 60 or under (Clausen actually has the highest of our three starters).

If you go back through the years the QB ratings have slowly gone up when looking at the league rather than individuals up to this season. It's a pretty obvious trend, yet Carolina has seen a slow decline from 2005-2008 and then a rapid decline since then.

Can our coaching staff have been that stubborn that despite defences getting more and more complex and good at disguising, they still felt their execution would win out? With teams going away from the generally accepted Cover 2 to more hybrid styles, it was obvious that teams could adapt much quick to a dominant style.

Fox and co have pretty much ensured that Clausen & Moore had zero chance this year and made them look very inept. All they needed was an ounce of creativity to help our young receivers to get separation and take the pressure of the young singal callers by doing a lot of their job for them.

Could Fox's prior refusal to turn to young QBs be simply because he didn't want to have to change his offensive philosophy? I am sorry but with three rookies in 4 of the skill positions in the passing game, execution is going to be lacking, surely he could have seen that execution alone would not win games...?
