Universal whine about Clausen thread

I didn't have a choice tonight. I had to do my last Christmas shopping. I missed the inevitable beat down---Clausen and Company's meltdown. But, if I didn't have to go Christmas shopping, I still would have went Christmas shopping. Why watch what I knew would be a slaughter on the eve of Christmas Eve?

I did buy a nice Panthers cooler from Walmart (in Clayton for those in the RTP) for $10.00. It was regularly priced at $30. It has the wheels, retractable handle and everything. I bet I can get at least a 12 pack in the thing.

Sweet!

I saw so many of the same things but just decided I wasn't going to make ANOTHER thread to address it, I think the proof is in the pudding, and that pudding is THICK, lol.

That 4th and 5 sack in the 1st or 2nd that we didn't convert should've been a TD. In the replay one of the WRs came off the line and got behind the coverage running down the hashes straight towards the endzone. Even if there was a safety over top, he should've just thrown it up with the amount of pressure coming.

Once he goes down, he's f*cked the rest of the game.

Tonight I joined those who want to replace Clausen. He may work out with the right scheme and QB coach, but you don't pass on the chance to grab a franchise QB. He clearly needs work though. His timing is bad, he has no feel for the pocket, he throws too low, and he holds the ball long enough for me to go grab a beer and come back to watch him screw up a 5 yard pass to Rosario again.

Great picture! :D

Clausen is not fit to be a starter in this league. He'll never be a great QB, and in fact I don't see him being even a game manager. He has awful pocket awareness. When you're primarily a pocket QB that's not a good thing. Every once in a while he can scramble out of a sticky situation, but it's rare. He holds onto the ball far too long and he's not good at disguising his reads. He's an extremely predictable QB for the defense to defend against. He also has a terrible deep ball and too many of his passes are batted down at the line of scrimmage. I also don't see any intangibles with Clausen. He isn't the leader Delhomme was.

I actually think our WR corps is ok. WR is one of the tougher positions for a rookie to have immediate success in, and I think Gettis and Lafell will turn out alright, or at least one of them will. Our biggest problems are O-line and of course, QB. Clausen will be a competent 2nd string QB for us, nothing more. We won't cut him as I've seen suggested somewhere today, that's just ridiculous. He will "battle" Luck for the starting spot next year and lose to become our backup. Moore will be let go and he'll go be a backup somewhere else. Hopefully we swing a 2nd round pick in this draft (if we end up trading our next year's 1st, I hope we get a late 1st this year for it) and take a top tier O-lineman with our second pick. Hopefully get a DT worth a damn in the third and fill in depth with the rest of the picks. If our first three picks are good picks, I think next year we can be at least as good as we were last year and swing a .500 record, minimum.

When you get to be my age, one of those little things in life you begin to appreciate is a good night's sleep.

I did enjoy that last night as you all sat up to watch the same thing that's gone on all year long. I've seen it in person all season at BOA, I've seen it on TV all season on Sunday afternoons and as the clock struck 10:45PM last night I went upstairs confident in knowing Jimmy Clausen would again prove to be as consistent as he has all year. I was not disappointed.

I will have to admit I did the same thing.

He is just limited physically. Small hands, not much arm, small. I don't see the fire in him either. He seems like he's scared to death. I guess we're finding out why he dropped to the second round. He may be a decent backup at some point, but if they pass on Luck, we're in big trouble if we're stuck with Clausen.
