Universal whine about Clausen thread

Drafting Luck doesn't even mean we're "bailing" on Clausen. I honestly don't think anyone within this organization ever thought he was the real future of the franchise. He was simply the best value pick available and it was a position of need for us. We don't have all that much invested in him. I certainly don't say that the Panthers ever laid their future on the line for Clausen. It was just a smart pick for the position we were in.

We never expected to be picking #1 overall though and with a talent like Luck you just can't pass it up. We would be complete dolts to not draft Luck.

I reread my post. Couldn't find that anywhere. QB do generally do better with an Oline that knows how to play football. Also an unmotivated team don't do worth poo.
but is your solution to stick with clausen or try to get an upgrade while doing those other things?

To blame Clausen's poor play on the o-line is tomfoolery on anyones part who agrees with this IMO. Our o-line is not up to strength right now. It has been torn apart by injuries. But that itself is not the only reason for our offensive problems. Even when Clausen has all of the time in the world to throw he still makes mistakes constantly. Whether he holds on to the ball to long or throws an interception.

Our o-line is a great group. We have all pro players on there and with a new system next year I can guarantee they'll be much better. If they had Brady or Manning playing behind them right now they would play a lot better. But they have no faith in Clausen so they don't try has hard from the looks of it. Is that shameful? Maybe so, but it's just reality. Clausen does nothing to help out the o-line, so the o-line does nothing to help him out. This season has been lost from the start and everyone knows it.

I honestly hope VT gives Luck a challenge because from the games I have watched him in he has not looked like the next Manning..sure he has looked good but the hype he is getting is out of control..

But I do trust the scouts that say even if I dont see it that he is the real deal and we should draft him if we can.

Lucks passes flutter when they are 50 plus yards as hes falling down...Pickles flutters passes and cant see over the line..within 15 yards.

Chris Weinke is Better...today..if he was called..would do better. Last night with no practice. He would have 100 yards at least.

Are there plays set up to help Jimmy Claussen..Not relly.. Is Claussen capable of being a winning QB in the NFL..not for a few years.. hes as much a projectat QB now as Armanti Edwards is as a WR.

Clausen is terrible right now.

No one knows if he is always going to be this bad, but the only point worth talking about is that right now, he's awful and isn't moving forward much at all.

QB is the most important position on the field. Cliche, but 100% true. We're getting, and this is polite, poor performance from that position with little to hint at a turnaround.

Say we get AJ Green. What the f**k is he going to do when Clausen doesn't have the accuracy to hit 5 yard routes? Plug Green (or any FA WR) into the play where Clausen over threw Gettis down the sideline. What changes, other than Green maybe being smarter about knocking the ball away? And that's just one example. People can whine about the OLine all they want to, but when Clausen has time, he still looks terrified and still has a weak f**king arm and still has a windup and still has a really low delivery and still has f**king terrible accuracy.

What has Clausen shown to make whoever our new coach is say "I can make him great. I can win championships with him."? Who here has seen enough from him to gamble on starting him again next year? I'm not sure I'm comfortable with him being the primary backup and one injury away from starting.

If we don't draft a QB high, we're looking at a FA QB and yet ANOTHER year of trying the whole "QB just good enough not to lose the game" approach. In a division with Brees, Ryan and Freeman. f**k that. Not to mention, there aren't many better FA QBs next year than Matt "no pressure plz!" Moore. f**k that, too.

Draft a fuging QB, take the gamble, actually TRY to get better as a team and run with it.

Upgrade indeed. It's hard to know what the new coach will do. It apears that JR thinks he may not need a coach until 2012. I am excited to see who it is and what his(or her) plan will be. I guess I'd finish the Clausen is... with gone I hope.

Let Clausen mature here--if he can beat out pike as the third QB. Bring in Harbaugh and Luck, and maybe their magic rubs off on Clausen. His contract is incentive laden. The fact that Moore sucked this season after experiencing success suggests that it could be the system/climate. Clausen needs to wait, watch, learn as the #3 QB for a year or two.

We need a veteran to start next season. Seeing how bleak the market is, I would consider looking hard at Matt Moore instead of brining in someone with a similar resume. I think he was set up to fail this season. He is not bad when the line is blocking and he has some options to throw to.

    • I don't really like the phrase, "moral victory". I get what's meant by it, but does that mean that if you do the opposite (play poorly but win) it's an immoral victory? 🤔
    • I blame Evero because he is overrated. Vance Joseph created the defense in Denver that he took credit for. Wilks ran the ball down his throat and Darnold had a 103.8 rtg.  Last year we were decent in yards allowed, and horrible in everything else. Only reason? We kept giving up good field position.  He's had his choice of players to bring in since his scheme is so "complicated." Maybe he should stop trying to be so fancy like running Cover 4 on 3rd and 1 earlier and focus on fundamentals like tackling. These years of Eric Washington, Phil Snow, and Evero must have gotten you confused on what a real defense looked like. Go back and watch the McDermott and Wilks years- this dude is sofT.
    • I tried to make it a point in the opening post that I don't think the offense is a finished product. I think we still need more talent at WR, better play calling, catch more consistently, elimate ridiculous penalties,  and be more consistency in scoring points. I'm just saying, they look markedly better than last year imo. They have scored 20 or more in 6 games and 30 or more in 2 games. And that's particularly notable considering they only mustered 10 points and 3 points in first 2 games of this year and they got blanked on 0 points two games in a row to wrap up last season . I'd say that's a market improvement.  I'm not crowning them and saying we have a top 10 offense or anything.  I'm comparing them to themselves in recent history.
