Universal whine about Clausen thread

but but Luck will take us to the Superbowl by himself!

In all honesty I looked at his highlights, he plays a lot like Clausen and half the people on here haven't seen Luck play. I have. A lot of his throws are him falling down, off his back foot going for touchdowns that in the NFL will be as successful as those throws Clausen makes.

Plus, his passes flutter. He does not have an elite arm, and while people compare him to Brady and Manning, he can't throw as hard. Those curl routes he throws are easy picks in the NFL.

People are idiotic to assume there will not be a steep learning curve, maybe as much as Clausen. Luck can digest info better, but will be facing guys pinning their ears back and going after him. Plus, the weight of the Huddle's shoulders will be on him and if he fails, whether it be because of his own sucktitude, or poor OL play, drops, penalties, poor defense and his own problems (most likely) I think some people on here are going to retire from the Huddle, because their Savior didn't come through with the end-all performances they expected.

I almost feel as sorry for Luck as Clausen. But this is why I take most of what is said on here with a grain of salt.

Most posts are knee-jerk reactions to the most recent play a guy makes. As a non-Panthers front-office guy once told me, fans don't see the tape. They see the QB taking a sack or a RB running away from his blocks. They don't see the poor routes, or the missed assignments. Heaping all this blame on Clausen is stupid, as stupid as it was for people to do it to Delhomme for throwing picks because receivers couldn't get open, so he took chances. And we were rewarded with INTs...same for Moore. Clausen doesn't take those chances, throws 8 INTs in 10 games whereas Moore and Delhomme could hit that number in two full games.

No matter what our QB does here, it won't be good enough. Sure, you can say "he never showed me anything," but #1, he has to show the team something, not you. And #2, you're conveniently ignoring things he does right. That goes for any player.

I don't look forward to this all happening again next year, because Luck is more like Clausen than he is Manning. Your best bet as a fan is to hope the OL and secondary are bolstered.

But what pisses me off the most is fans who complain when we take too many chances, calling players idiots. Then when their replacement doesn't take chances, he's an idiot.

When he actually gets enough time to throw the ball he doesnt take his eye off the reciever. I remember one throw that he watched Rosario run all the way to the end zone and then he noodle armed it behind him. But then you'll see him throw a strike to Steve. I think Steve dropped it on purpose just to piss Pickles off.

Interesting comparisons:

Colt McCoy week 5 vs steelers

23/33 281 1 2

Pickles

10/23 72 0 1

Again poor. But let's look at the WR stats, and dropped passes/poor routes.

Oh, and you guys better pray we don't cut DeAngelo, for the sake of Luck. DeAngelo is by far our best run-blocking HB, Goodson and Stewart are garbage in pass protection.

If you can't see that Clausen is a bad QB then you aren't paying attention

the thing is he essentially says he does suck cause he doesn't look as good as other rookie phenoms like time The Golden Calf of Bristol and skelton (lol) but we should stick with him anyways.

wow has 9 years of fox and too many years of jake screwed up this fan base making excuses for bad QBing and thinking that we don't need to get someone better in here.

I wouldn't say Stewart is garbage. Goodson on the other hand...

I sit low in the endzone at BofA. Basically right behind the QB when we are pinned deep in our territory which is a great place to watch Clausen play.

Yes there are plenty of plays where he is screwed by a blitz or a dropped pass.

But you also can watch the plays where he has protection and an open guy and he screws it up all the time.

he has thrown some nice passes but you only see them on the easy plays. When our TE has a half step 8 yards over the middle and pickles is rolling out you can bet $$ he will just miss. Seen it a bunch of times. These quick plays are the ones that an NFL QB has to make rookie or not.

Once more I will say, our problem goes way deeper than a QB. Those that are hinging the fate of our on a draft pick are setting themselves up for a major dissapointment.

Not just a draft pick but a huge coaching overhaul. A new leader at QB, with a new coaching staff and hopefully a couple FAs. Our team needs adequate coaching, play calling and above all else inspiration. Knowing they are not playing for a lame duck. Knowing their owner didn't abandon them for a year to save some $.

I know it has been said but we really do have lots of talent but it won't shine without the right people polishing it.

yeah that good WR is doing so well in Seattle, Tate hasnt wowed me yet, but Clausen will play with him next year when Carolina releases him (NO team will trade for him because they KNOW Carolina is getting rid of him, same problem Washington will have with McNabb).

Why in the hell would they release Clausen? They don't have to start or even ever play him, they could have him as emergency third QB every week, but there is no reason to release him. They have him locked up for relatively cheap for a while. Releasing him and eating the contract would be beyond stupid.

i think you're the one that hasn't been watching luck play.

making way too many excuses for clausen. your boy wasn't as good as advertised and the best thing you can do is say that luck might not be any better. your solution? don't even try to get better or pretend it isn't as bad a problem as it actually is.

clausen is no better than moore and may actually be worse and less likely to handle the pressure of being a QB.

it isn't a knee jerk reaction. it's knowing when to cut bait before we wind up missing out on a chance to get a real stud at QB so we can see if clausen can do anything but suck with a new coaching staff, new WRs, new oline....meh...just not worth it to me and the team hasn't given up enough for him or have enough invested in him to warrant sticking with him for longer than this year.

Just knee jerk Message board posts.. Hes not going anywhere..little money is invested in Pickles..

U can blame the OL, Wrs, coaching but calling Jimmy Claussen David Carr is an insult to David Carr. Carr was 20 times better than Jimmy Claussen and if anyone has seen improvment you have to break down where it is..

His pre- season games were way more impressive than any game in the regular season..not improving when you peak before week 1 playing against pizza hut drivers. Even his passes that get to wrs are usually so inaccurate...like he panic throws all the time.

No luxury pick on a need like a DT or even Megatron jr. AJ Green, this draft its gotta be a QB. If we don't draft a legitimate QB that will be more than a spot starter we will be rooting for a losing team for the next decade.

Schlereth actually had me lol when he was talking about Jimmy C as only a 2nd Round QB and Carolina can make that transition because of that because he wasn't a first round QB.
i totally agree with this. it isn't to make lightly of a 2nd rounder. i hate wasting them because you can get some serious talent there, but being a 2nd rounder is not enough of a reason to pass up on a significantly better talent like what will be available this year in luck or newton.

financial investment is low (only $2.5mil), offense hasn't been built around him and really hasn't invested much time in making him the focal point. they just went with a very basic and bland offense (pretty much all davidson is capable of and all fox will allow) and he still couldn't handle it. he doesn't really have the team rallying around him and doesn't command their respect. he's not a leader on the team...he's just this guy who wears a panthers jersey.

few will notice it or care if he were gone.

shouldn't cut him loose or anything. just trade him away and hope to get something for him.
